RETURNING LETTERM N SPE RHEAD GGLF HGPE Returning Lettermen The Golf team finished fourth in 1968, after winning the championship for four consecutive years. The l969 team was coached again by Coach Dick Hart. The Varsity competed in 20 matches and the year was highlighted by a trip to Pebble Beach. Returning from last yearls team were lettermen Wayne Duerson, ArtCarewe, George Carewe, Stocky Spooner, Steve Hartman and Bruce McCarthy. The top golfers were Senior Wayne Duerson and Junior George Carewe. The Giants got off to a flying start by de- feating Novato by 10 strokes on their first outing. ETTERS LGOK FORWARD TO SECOND CONSECUTI E TITLE In l968, Coach Glen Dickey guided his team to the league title, winning eleven of twelve out- ings. This year Mr. Dickey said that this was his strongest team he has ever coached and probably the best in Redwood's history. The team was comprised of five juniors, five sophomores, three seniors, and two freshmen. Bob Knight, Andy Walker, Steve McDonald, Brice Basset, and Tad Isaacs were the top five and among the eight returning varsity netters. Because of the considerably large number of fine underclassmen on the team, the Giants were the team to beat in 1969 and will be for the years to come. REDWGGD Look FQR AQUATIC SWEEP Getting a good start Redwood Senior Greg Meyers goes on to win the 50 yard freestyle. The 1969 Redwood Swim Team fielded what Coach Purcell considers one of the best teams in Redwood's eleven year history. After going un- defeated in both Varsity and Bee divisions through the practice season, the Giant mermen forcast what could be the first aquatic grand slam by sweeping championships in all M.C.A. L. watersports, waterpolo, Bee and Varsity Swimming. At the time the yearbook went to press record performances had been turned in by Ken James, Mike Roark and Brian Hennessy in individual events. When these men joined in relays by other Redwood standouts such as Greg Meyers, Ted Danse, John Malvino and Norm DeMont look hopefully toward All-American recogni- tion. Outstanding Bee swimmers are Charlie Rosso, Paul Cane, Scott Sinnott, Peter Phelps and Erik Humber. Varsity diver Kirk Gray scores highly as Redwood went on to defeat Berkley in their first meet of the year. ,,v,,, S,
