Last year, Coach Coronado guided his team to a 19-4 season and finished second in league standings. The squad was spearheaded by five return- ing J.V.'s and Juniors Vance Argento, Tim Maltzahn, and Frank Pamilia. The bulk of the team, however, consists of last year's Freshman players. The Junior Varsity was backed by a good defensive front and powerful hitting by LaTorre, Buettner, Moresco and Trobbe. Mr. Coronado commented, prior to the season, that Terra Linda and Navato would provide the stiffest competition in the M.C.A.L. g 57 sv aff ' Coach Wes Price looked forward to a success- ful season this year. The Freshmen came in third place last year. Hurling this year for the team was Mike Butler, Kevin Brown, and Bob Brown, Grant Wagner and' Joel Johnson. Scott Barrie, Sam Farb, and Kerry Kness played the infield. The outfield consisted of Bob Stubbs, Jim Thorn and Ray Judah. Because of an en- thusiastic turnout of thirty boys, the Freshmen Baseball team were strong contenders for their league title. PRCSPECTS BRIGHT FOR TRAC UAD STA.VDl.YG: Coach Shaw, Mike Sferrati, Dave Lake, Judd Piller, Gary Kasprzak. Phil Simon. Dave Baldwin KNEELING: Mike A strong Redwood track team was eagerly awaiting the start of the league season as the yearbook went to press. Under the supervision of Coach Gary Shaw, the team appeared headed for its third straight MCAL title with the only serious competition coming, as usual, from Tam. This year's squad appeared to be strongest in the field events where Brian Hicks and Mike Wurtz in the pole vault, Judd Pillar in the dis- cus, Dave Lake in the highjump, and Bob Bartel and Gary Kasprzak in the shot put were early season standouts. Outstanding runners were Todd Norris in the 440 and 880, Tom Estudillo in the 440, Chris Sigur and Tom Poppin in the sprints, and Phil Russell, Kevin Pusser, Lee Hotchkin, Tim Taylor, and Jay Neuhaus in the distance events.
