V is w1N sEcoND 'Under the direction of Coach Duncan MacSwain, the Junior Varsity ended the sea- son atop the league standings for the second con- secutive year. The championship squad com- piled a 19-4 season record and were 12-2 in M.C.A.L. competition. This year was high- lighted by a 76-72 overtime victory against the previously undefeated Tomales varsity, and a 81-52 triumph over Marin Catholic. Other key wins occurred late in the season against Drake and Terra Linda. The Jay Vee's averaged an impressive 56.7 points per game to their oppo- nents' 42.8. Coach MacSwain felt that co-captains Jim Barkovich and Scott Trobbe would prove vital to next yearls varsity. Trobbe led team rebounding and Barkovich was second in team scoring. He also felt that guards, Kent Skov and Scott Miller along with pivot men Jay Speck and George Johnson, would be positive assets to next yearls varsity. Steve Root, the squad's most valuable player and the league's third leading scorer, will not be at Redwood next year and his loss will certainly be felt. While harassed by two San Rafael defenders, Jim Barkovich releases a lay-up. STRAIGHT M.C.A L Kent Skov patiently watches his free throw. Could they follow the co-championship team of last year? The opening game against the Washington l30's was a dis- astrous 39-22loss. The turning point came in the next game when the B's defeated Salesian 42-32. This was the first of a 21 game winning streak which brought the first undisputed B championship to Red- wood. LEFT' Co-captain Bob Piper goes up to bring down a rebound as Greg Pedlar comes in for assistance. RIGHT' Co-captain Tom Marker puts up ajump shot as Steve Malvino watches. 9 ggi, Y The championship was truly a team effort with the all-around skills of co-captain Tom Marker, the outstanding rebounding of co-captain Bob Piper, the accuracy of Greg Pedlar, the wild drives of Terry Dorais, the pesky Steve Malvino, bustling Steve Wentworth, the fine shooting of Mike Candrian, the passing skill of Bob Zim- merman, the speed and desire of Dennis Carrade, and the cooperation and contri- butions of Gary Levin, Mike DeMartini, Paul Della-Santina, Kirk Radke, Mike Fitch, and Rick Hochschild. The Beeis this year had five members on the All League Team. They were Tom Marker, Greg Pedlar on the first team, Bob Piper and Terry Dorais on the second team and Tom Malvino received an honor- able mention.
