This was a year of success for basketball at Redwood High School. Led by All-Leaguers Jerry Piro, Jim Peters, and John Boro, Redwood finished strong, winning 20 of their last 22 games. Skip Corsini and Pete Webb rounded out the first string on a squad called by Coach Hart 'fthe best we've ever had here at Redwood, possibly the best in the history ofthe league. The Giants proved their strength at the T.O.C., winning two of three games, the one loss coming at the hands of Castlemont, the tourney's eventual winner, in a very close ball game. Piro scored 68 points in three games and was voted to the All-Tournament team. In analyzing the team's success, Coach Hart pointed out two things, great spirit and great depth. I've never had a team where everyone got along so well with each other, he remarked. There were no cliques on this team. In reference to the depth of the squad, he referred to the fact that there were nine players who played fre- quently. In addition to the starting five, Art Carewe, Pete Carroll, Roger Smith, and Bill Challender were men- tioned.
