NE, IOR COUNCIL al' I BARBARA XVILSON, Adviser Redwoods first seniors have spent a busy, fun-filled year helping start school traditions and organizations and raising money for the Senior Ball. As graduation day approached, Redwoods seniors looked in retrospect at the September days when plans for the last year were being formed. Cake and doughnut sales, a slave sale, a dance, and senior dues were some of the fund-raising activities which supported this year's senior treasury. Rally and parking privileges, a senior line at the canteen, and senior privilege cards were some of the privileges granted to the class of '59. Senior week in which senior classes were suspended in preparation for graduation was another of the special treats enjoyed by this year's seniors. 43 sf-ai, ROBERT KUEIINL. Adviser. Ifclair sales during the first semester served as a money raising project. On the social scene. they sponsored a school dance, Silver Bells, in january. The whole class enjoyed a picnic in May at the Southern Marin Recreation Center in Tiburon. The sophomores proved their worth to the rest of the student body at an assembly during the latter part of the school year. In the academic field, they became accus- tomed to a different assortment of subjects and took the Iowa Achievement Tests for the first time. Redwoods first sophomore class is now eagerly looking forward to next year, when it will become a member of the elite upper class. The committee consists of at least three students from the fresh- men, sophomore, junior, and senior classes. Their job is to help find talent from each class for rallies, assemblies, and other activities. The organization arranged exchange rallies, guest star shows, and other programs. GIRLS' SELF COVER E T PHYLLIS KEARNS, ALICE HANNEL: Fall Co-heads In the American society there is the freedom of self govern- ment, the government of the people. Such is the case with Redwood. The students themselves determine the government of the school. They set up the rules by which they must abide, and elect a president who chooses a body to enforce these rules. The selection of the Self Government Committee is made by the Boys' and Girls' Self Government heads, who are ap- pointed by the newly elected president. The committee then proceeds to enforce the rules of the school. The duties of self government are divided among the two segments of the committee. The boys' responsibilities are es- sentially to patrol the campus to prevent littering of the school, smoking, and cutting. The duties of the members of the Girls' Committee are primarily to police the rallies and school and to control student conduct. .IAN DELBO, KATHY ANIXTER: Spring co-heads E17 SPRING GIRLS' SELF GOVERNMENT, FIRST ROXV: Thorley Turner, Judy XX'ehh, Diane Newberry, jan Delho, Kathy Anixter, Phyllis Kearns, Elaine Lyons, Stefanie Rodrigo, SECOND ROXV: Anne Reynolds, Robin Dinkelspiel, Anne Ninnis, Lori Giesecke, ,lill Clumeck, Gloria Burke, Paula Merret, Andrea Kaldor, Alice Hannel. Numer- ous parties were held by the club. Members included in the organization were all seniors except for two juniors who are being taught the procedures of the club, so that they may carry on the tradition next year. jan Delho, Elaine Lyons, Co-heads, Railroatl Club RED CROSS CL B The junior Red Cross is composed of teen agers who volunteer their time to aid their community. In February a special election was called to decide an issue vital to the Tamalpais High School District, an issue which had failed twice before - the tax rate increase. After securing the available facts and being convinced of the importance of the increase to them- selves and the school district, a small but devoted group of students volunteered to campaign in support of the measure. As a community service, they helped adult workers circulate as much information to the voters as possible to aid the voters in mak- ing an intelligent decision. Student workers will remember the pledge cards and the hectic rush of calling at home after home. Their efforts were rewarded - the tax increase was passed. During the fall season the girls had an opportunity to take G.A.A. soft- ball, basketball, modern dancing, and trampoline. Spring sports offered to members included volleyball, badmin- ton, archery, and trampoline. In the winter months members went on a ski trip and attended several sports days and conferences. This year, for the first time, G.A.A. sweatshirts were available to the girls. The sweatshirt tradition will be car- ried on in the future.
