AFS — From Thailand.. . Now summer has come and that means my year in Redwood Falls has come to an end, too. I really never had a year like this before; a busy year with a lot of fun and new experiences, a year that passed so fast, my memorable year in Redwood Falls. 1 had always dreamed of being an AFS student, but never thought I would succeed. 1 always thought I didn’t know enough English to pass the AFS test. However, my dream came true. I left Thailand on July 19. 1971, and flew across the ocean to New York. Can you imagine how exciting it was to go to another country and yet how sad to leave home and family for a whole year? At the beginning,! didn't really know what I felt, glad or sad. 1 was very con- fused and worried about my future as an AFS’er in Redwood Falls. I didn’t know what to do and what to say, what was right or wrong. This was the start of many experiences. I suddenly became an AFS foreign student, a representative and ambassador for Thailand, a part of an American family and community, and a stu- dent in RFHS. I had become a different person only a week after I had left my country. I had to be many things at the same time, and had to adapt myself to fit in the community. So many things were different from my own country - the climate, customs, religion, language, food, school. The one thing that I liked very much was that the American people were always friendly and kind to me. Thank you for giving me a good time while I stayed here. I have so much to say, but one page is too little for me to conclude and evaluate my year. I’d like to thank AFS for giving me the opportunity to come here. It's really great to become an AFS’er and to learn so many new things. I will never be sorry to have taken a year from college to become an AFS student. It has been a very valuable year that can't be compared with anything else. I have made lots of friends and I am sure I will miss them when I go back home. I know it’s hard to say good-bye and I don't want to say it, but still I am anxious to see my family again. Kany’s host family, the John Tiffany's FROM LEFT, FRONT: Paul. Mr. Tiffany. Mrs Tiffany. Lee BACK: kany. Jean Wayne, and Bruce I hope my year has brought you better under- standing of my country and myself, as much as I have learned from you. Please remember me as your friend from Thailand. Remember, too, that there is a house in Bangkok waiting to give you a very warm welcome. Keep this in mind and visit me sometime. If it’s possible, I will come back and see you again. Until then, I will always be thinking of you. Finally, may these lines remind you and me to think about other people and help them have the chance for a wonderful experience like AFS. Goodbye and good luck for now and always. Walk together. Talk together All ye peoples of the earth. Then and only then shall ye have peace. Kanpirom ‘‘Kany’’ Ingcachaichote AFS Student from Thailand 92
