Students Take Over It all began on Monday and Tuesday, May 1 and 2, with the filing for various offices. Wild, but delightful posters lined the halls, ceilings, and classrooms, tempt- ing those who walked by. Thursday the students flocked to the polls and by seventh hour we knew who our leaders for the coming day would be. Friday dawned bright and early for some of those elected. Cooks and janitors were on the job by 7 a.m., ready, willing, and eager to fulfill their obligations — and campaign promises. Eight o’clock found principal Mike Schoffman, superintendent Kevin O’Leary and their secretaries Wen- dy Bollum and Kathy Flinn hard at work in their offices. Noon time entertainment was furnished by the Sophisticates, a local group. By the time the final bell rang at 3: 30, all those fortunate to be elected were ready to turn the business of education back to those trained for that purpose. We students had had our day and were glad to rejoin the ranks of teens. Principal Mike signs a pass for two jun- iors. Secretary to the principal, Wendy Bollum. keeps us up-to-date. Mark DeWolfe tries to teach fellow sophomores some geometry.

Jody Norcutt, Susan Valle, and Kathe Wilcoxon in a scene from the play “No Exit.” The play concerned three people in hell. It tried to show that hell is people themselves. Because the play was about a coward, a Lesbian, and a nymphomaniac, it was not presented the second night as there was strong public disapproval. This scene depicts the Valet (Jody Nor- cutt) informing Estelle (Susan Valle) and Inez (Kathe Wilcoxon) that they must stay in hell forever. Ann Hougham. and Barb Meyers. “Curses! Foiled again!, cries villain Kevin O’Leary as the rest of the cast looks on. The play is an old- fashioned “mellerdram- mer” complete with hero, villain, cape and mous- tache. We were invited to participate in the play by hissing when the villain entered and cheering the hero when he entered. It was enjoyed as much by the viewers as the actors. 24
