We, as a senior class, feel that we have obtained the highest goal in high school-that of being at the top. Our past years have been of great value to us, but our senior year is the most important and the longest remembered. During our last year we were engaged in numerous activities. We presented the class play, -published the school annual, and sponsored various other activities. We had a senior skip day which will be looked back upon with a pleasant memory. Then, too, our Commencement and graduation will hold a place in our hearts forever. One outstanding boy and girl from the senior class was chosen to go to Boys and Girls State for one week. There, they gained know- ledge on the operation of city, county, and state government. The motto is learn by doing, so those wishing to hold office must campaign in the same manner as real politicians. Girls State is held at the 4-H Building on the fair grounds, and is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Boys State is held on the Farm Campus of the University of Minnesota, and is sponsored by the American Legion. As being seniors we feel that we had many responsibilities but we have a happy future to look forward to. We know that without the help and guidance of our instructors and class-mates, we would never have reached this goal. Now, having completed our final year, we will go on toward success, and with the thought that high school days are the best days. Boy and Girl Slate Arnold Rasmussen and Marita Reque. It is made up of twelve members, five seniors, four iuniors, and three sophomores. The presidents of the sophomore, iunior and senior classes are non-voting members of the council. The members are divided into three committees: Social, Lost and Found, and Program. With the able assistance and advice of Mr. George Ramseth, the advisor, the council has carried out many successful projects. The most important this year was when the council was host to fifty area schools at the Southwest Division Student Council Convention. The con- vention included panel discussions, meetings, and in the evening everyone attended a banquet which was followed by a dance. .. me Q23 'L l Some of the other proiects have been pop- ping corn for the concessions, sponsoring Dads' Night for the fathers of the football team and Mothers' Night for the mothers of the basketball team, selecting Lyceum programs for the succeed- ing year and buying and decorating the Christ- mas trees for the halls in school. Gep Durenberger, Jean Hanson, Sandy Olson, and Tom Beager were delegates to the State Student Council Convention which was held at St. Louis Park. CARDINAL STAFF The members of the Cardinal Staff of 1954 hope that this annual has met with your approval and that it will always be a memory of your won- derful school days. Putting out a yearbook is not an easy iob, but the co-operation and enjoyment we received made it seem like a light task. Our obiective was to present to you a thorough pic- ture of our school and its activities, and we have tried to make the 1954 Cardinal the best. Alice Jeppesen Noreen lV16lg8S Wliviiii PROM The 1953 Prom, sponsored by the class of '54, was an experiment of a new idea. lnstead of the conventional banquet and dance as was used in previous years, the plan was altered in favor of the following plan and changes: Rather than being held in the Lincoln Gym as before, the Prom moved to the larger, new gymnasium. The banquet was supplemented by a chick- en-in-the-basket luncheon served during the ev- ening. Decorations followed a theme of American in Paris and a Parisian street scene was built in a pink, red, black and white scheme. It consist- ed of sidewalk cafes completely covering both side walls. Against one end an exact replica of the Arc de Triumph was constructed and on the other, a Paris garden. Rows of pink potted trees, a giant painting of the Eiffel Tower looming be- hind the band stand, and a dress shop for wraps added to the grand illusion, so earnestly worked for by last year's Junior class. The evening was a smash hit! Beginning at 8:00 sharp, the grand march wound its way through the Arc and around the sidewalk cafes, after which there was dancing and floor shows intermittent. During this time, waitresses, skillfully dressed in French costumes served refreshments to those seated at their reserved tables under the pink and red canopies of the cafes. As usual there was a prophecy and reading of the will. Professional photographers and anxious friends and parents popped flash bulbs at the already starry-eyed iuniors and seniors in an attempt to get permanent remembrances of the evening. Although it was the seniors' last, the juniors turned an expectant and enthusiastic eye to their next year's Prom and hoped for one as success- ful and full of happy memories. i PROM SCHOOL LIFE 'vlvmns-g,,.,,,,,. Arnold Rasmussen Eugene Garnhardf John Ramseth HOMECOMING With the 1953 homecoming, came a new pass word to students of Redwood Falls High school - Court Marshall. And with it came a renewed interest in snake dances and bonfires, floats and parades, queens, and, of course, football. Again this year the program of festivities followed the traditional plan. With the DeKalb plant and bonfire as its destination, the snake- oance, led by the cheerleaders, wound its way over yards, down alleys, and through uptown buildings. A roaring bonfire served as a back drop as the queen candidates and football play- ers were greeted by a cheering crowd. Scholarship was least stressed Friday, Octo- ber 23, as last minute preparations were concen- trated on the floats, which contributed to a big- ger and more colorful parade that afternoon. At 8 p.m. enthusiastic spectators were treat- ed to an exciting game which resulted in a vic- tory for the Cards with a score of 12-6. At half- time, after a showy display of music and march- ing by the Marshall and Redwood Falls High school bands, the queen candidates were intro- duced to the crowd. The Marshall dance band entertained at the dance held in the Lincoln Gym immediately af- ter the game. Candidates Jane Duncan, Lois Kretsch, Jean Tyson, Connie Johanneck and Jean Hanson led the applause as Ramona Keil, the 1952 Queen, crowned Marita Reque as .the 1953 Homecoming Queen. And so another Redwood Falls High school homecoming chalked up a pleasant remembrance for all. Left to right-Jean Tyson, Jean Hanson, Jane Duncan, Lois Kretsich, Connie Johanneck.
