Bob Dylan .ti ln ,af world .preoccupiedfwith ,space and speed, it becomes important for us to wander occasionally from the protection ' of home and classroomtstoiobserve both the accomplishments andpitfalls which mirror our cosmopolitan life. In doing this we realize that facts andefigures qrefoniy a part of education-they must not be mistaken for the true product. They supply .us only with the tools with which we build our great monuments of learning. Monuments composed not of stone or clay, but of ideas, emotions, and the conscience of man. These living monuments are the literature, architecture, art, mathematics, and science not only of the ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian cultures, but of our own contemporary civilization. The city of l.os Angeles, so much a part and product of our civilization, is itself, a showplace of these monuments. The sprawling buildings, the museums, the art galleries, the theatres, the music centers, and the coffee houses are but expressions of what goes on inside man.
