One fine day in the spring of 1907, a boy and a girl, Bert Lerch and Mina Sanderson, stood side by side and all alone to receive their high school diplomas. Today, a full fifty years later, we of Redondo should think on the pleasant ordeal of Miss Sanderson and Mr. Lerch, in tight billowing gown and tight celluloid collar, with particular pride and fondness, for they were the first pioneers. They were the Hrst graduates from Redondo High School. Furthermore, as a final testimonial to the toughness and adaptability of the Redondo species, both Miss Sanderson tnow Mrs. Mina Sanderson Currierj and Mr. Lerch are very much THE FIRST PLAY to be presented at Redondo High School, Esmeralda, was performed in April of 1907. Miss Dora Camp- bell Davis and Mr. Albert Lerch, one of the first two graduates are pictured in that ploy. At lower left is Mr. Lerch as he is today, and at the right is Miss Mina Sanderson, the other graduate of 1907. The picture was taken on our campus. At the left is Mrs. Currier Knee Mina Sandersonl as she is today. alive. Mrs. Currier, after a long and distinguished career as a California teacher, now lives with her husband in retirement on a farm near Arlington, Washington, Mr. Lerch, after more than 46 years with Southern California business firms, including 37 years with Stand- ard Oil, is in retirement, living in Los Angeles when he is not traveling about the world. Both of our earliest classmates are alert to the present and clear-eyed and charitable about the pastg the letters the PILOT has received from each are exceptionally well-written. The spelling is flawless and the grammar unimpeachable. Who says we don't teach our young- sters anything here at Redondo? qcannnued on Page 1555
