To 240 The Editors. . Dear Editors, Redmond High School is a very special place. It has come to mean a great deal to me in the short time I have been in Washington, U.S.A. People thought l was crazy or courageous to lea ve my home, my family, and my friends, and live in a foreign country for a year. I saw it as a challenge-a chance to meet people and to experience another way of life. I lcnow I made the right decision. I am a Rotary exchange student from I-Iohannesburg, South Africa. I am used to sunshine all year round, summer in December, temperature in Celcius and driving on the left-hand-side of the road! But Redmond is my new home and Redmond High is full of friendly people. In the beginning, everything was so new and different for me. The variety of classes astounded me.- aerobics-as a class? Iloved it. 'G.P.A.Q 'late tolcensj and 'tardies' were new words to add to my growing vocabulary. My teachers were very understanding and interested in me and my country, which made me feel welcome and wanted. I shall never forget the excitement of my first assembly and the explosive atmosphere at the basketball game against Roosevelt: the punchy pep band, the cheerleaders who championed the cause, the togetherness of the team, and the chanting crowd. The spirit at Redmond High is something so real you can almost touch it. It surrounds the students and unites them. lt is an inspiration to GO FOR If to strive for excellence. It is always the students who make a school what it is. At RHS, the halls abound with dedicated, motivated people who are determined to succeed. But above all, they care about themselves and about other people, RHS allows its students to develop as human beings instead of computer printouts.
