his year has been one of excitement adventure in- volvement and success for DECA. With the largest marketing program in the state Redmond High s DECA strives got only to be the biggest but also the est. At competitions the hard work of the students definitely paid off. The Area 2 competitions were held at Bel- levue Square this year, with a record 180 students participating from RHS. 63 of those students received awards, giving Redmond DECA the most win- ners at Area 2. DECA participants also did a lot of traveling. Conferences were held in Salt Lake City, the Sea Tac Red Lion, and New York City. Students attend these conferences to hear speakers on various business-related topics, and for the social aspects. In RHS itself, DECA puts on many of its own activities. The Gift Wrap, Pumpkin Carving Contest, Fashion Show, and Pizza Eating Contest are just a few of these. The DECA Stu- dent Store is also open all year and gives students a chance to practice the skills they learn in a realistic situa- tion. DECA s teachers Mr. Barr M . edmond High started off the 1986-87 school year with a new and enthusiastic group of ASB officers. They had a leadership retreat held at Redmond High to plan the three major goals. These goals were 11 to improve staff and student attitudes spirit increase motivation and create unity within RHS. 21 improve com- munication between community schools, staff and students and 35 to create a balancein the atmosphere be- tween academics and activities. With the organization and effort of President J.D. Schampera, Vice presi- dent George Dyer, Secretary Anne Tallman, Treasurer Yvonne Watt and Parliamentarian Stephanie Bartron these goals began to take shape during the year. Homecoming was one of ASB s main activities. Involvement of the students presented a unifying effect towards the Organization of assem- blies Homecoming half-time enter- tainment and the Homecoming dance. The pep assemblies were a great suc- cess they built up more spirit from the students then in past years.
