he Redmond High School Football Team had a great year in 1986 finishing the season with a winning re- cord of five and four. For the first time in Redmond history the Mustangs went to the playoffs- but at the begin- ning of the season it didn t look as if they would go anywhere. Redmond lost their first two games to Bellevue and Newport and everyone counted the Mustangs. Using a new back-to- basics offense and ahrd hitting de- fense Redmond beat cross-town rival Lake Washington. They went on to win five of their last seven games with the only two losses coming from Interlake and Juanita. The loss to Kingbowl-bound Juanita was a heart- breaker where the Mustangs lost a close hard-fought game that went down to the final seconds. The season came down to the final game where them out. Everyone, that is, except Redmond was to play division-leading Woodinville. If Woodinville won they would clinch the division outright- The team had great leadershlp and a never say dle attltude, Jlm Sampson but a win by the Mustangs would throw the division into a four-way tie for first. The Mustangs rose to the oc- casion and hammered the Falcons 21 The team really pulled together and played hard to turn a slow start into a history- making season.
