Silmt ku BUS DRIVERS: Bus Manager Clyde Talbot, Deschutes: Harlis C. Ulrich, Lower Bridgeg Fayet A. Scoggin, Alfalfag Earl Kraft, Opal Cityg Dalton Clark, Cloverdaleg A. L. Chaplin, Tumalo Pictured at the top of this page are the drivers, with their regular bus routes listed. Drivers are hired upon application and pass- ing of a driving test similar to that taken in drivers training. Each holds a chauffeur's license. Mr. Kraft has driven since 1951 and Mr. Chaplin since 1952. Mr. Scoggin and Mr. Ulrich drove for the first time this year. This was Mr. Clark's first year as a regular driver, although he has substituted before. In all kinds of weather they bring students to school. Handling student discipline on the busses is no small item of their job. Friendly and uncomplaining, they have con- tributed to a real part of the school year. Manager Clyde Talbot Pictured at the bottom of this page is Clyde Talbot working in the bus garage. His job consists of hiring and firing drivers, mapping routes, maintaining busses-anything from a major overhaul to tightening a bolt, driving the bus for most extra trips, such as sports events and band trips, and driving the Des- chutes route regularly. He came here in February, 1950. Students and staff members like and respect him. His ability as a me- chanic comes in handy for everything around EW! Sqdfem Six regular school busses transport about 66 per cent of the R U H S students to school each day The busses travel about 471 miles a day using 70 gallons of gas each day. The school bus budget for the school year was 21 100 school, even to repairing the coffee pot for the teachers.
