annul! HIS' Sd . nhngq Havrng just founded the Morton Cigar Company, P ' manufacturers of those aromatic El Stinkos, I decided that there could be no better market for my product than that grand old class of '49. I began investigating and discovered that the entire class had gone to Mars R to start civilization on that planet. I boarded my rocket ship and zoomed through space. My ship came to a jarring stop on the crude run- 0 way. The sign on the hangar said, Jorgensen's Field, Fred Jorgensen, Prop. I climbed down from my ship but was forced to P take cover under it as Clayton Bliss and Verl Ham- X mack, those great half-backs, came charging down the field, warming up for the big game with Lila Popish Normal. H When they stopped at Don Young's soft drink stand for a coke, I went over and made some inquiries. They told me they were playing for J. Novak Tech under Coach Dale Knorr. Their manager of course XX was Jrm Dale and their slogan was Duffys Toughys 1 g The game with Popish Normal promised to be a ,S tough one with Jean Baker Doris Dickson Anna Bozarth and Lois Hammond otherwise known as the .gg- Four Horsewomen in the backfreld Another thorn in Novak Tech s srde was that Full back Jim R1ggS had slipped on a banana peal and would be 2 unable to play according to Dr Glenn Fincher X I expressed my sympathy and strolled away I stopped TSM-f startled when a lion dashed in front of me fleeing from Milton Harper who was wearing skins and carrylng an enormous club I regained my calm when I looked up and saw Ted Bliss B111 Tuck and Joe Mansfield walk by with gorgeous skins draped over then shoulders I recognized them by their harrcuts They informed me that the lovely work was done at Geraldine Miller s Beauty Salon by those charm ing hair stylrsts Dolores Halderson and Bonnie Young Just then a cute little paper boy whom I recognized as Don Gunther came by I bought a copy and headed for the nearest cave to read rt The cave happened to be Wyllie Pearsons Cafe where Don Brown was chef I sat down on a rock and Ted Wells dashed over for my order I ordered Frog Legs at la Hoy Fultz a very popular dish and one that had made Hoy quite famous Waiting for my order I opened the paper I wasnt surprised to see that Carolyn Varney was editor She still had part of her old Panther Scratches staff There were John Edgerton star reporter and Jeanette Cook assistant editor Leola Stevens had a homemakers column called Fun in the Frying Pan and there were cooking hints from such cook book greats as Betty Chandler Ruth Dlxson and Cordelia Humphrey There was also a hrnt or two from Dorothy McLeods book Eat and Get Fat Scanning the pages I found a Juicy scandal in Phyllis Grlberts column Grlberts Gossip The bank teller Ray gold Jewel had embezzeled ten thousand dollars and run away with President Don Parkers wife Georgiann Wilson ar er On top of that Don Parker could not be found because he had left town after shooting Cliff McCulloch in a squabble as to whether Art London or Richard McLauchl1n would win the heavyweight boxing match that was scheduled to take place in Gene Pedens stadium the following week To add to the confusion Detective Harold Short declared that he had seen the whole thrng on hrs home made television set and It was Ora Brmtnall who had taken the money so he could start the used car lot of which he had always dreamed Judge Bert Davis said this was not sufficient evidence and Jewel was still the chief suspect Police Captarn Duayne Johnson had not located him yet but Jeanne Stauffacher was on the case and so far her record for getting her man was perfect Somewhat upset by the scandal I turned the page and saw that Rodney Jones with his Srlx er Sax was doing a one nlght stand at Bonnie Carlos new night cave Ilene Hayes was his featured vocallst and he was also aided by Warren Orr who turned the pages of his music By this time mv frog legs had arrived borne by a lovely young waltress Ernestene Baller I looked around and found the room frlled with old class mates play was What Price Lore written by Evelyn Banta and Wilburta Davis It was the story of that most eternal of all eternal triangles Carolvn Lane Faye Telfer and Norman Sax At another table Ken Fairchild was doing card tricks for an invisible audience and Doris Hacker was diligently seeing how manv glasses she could balance on top of one another Joe Scharrck and Twylla Hargan famous ball room dancers were whirling around the floor accompanied by Doug Shepard who was stamping his feet Then Fern Smalley Jumped up and began recrting Shakespeare Unable to stand anymore I bolted for the door but was checked by Bouncer Elizabeth Lamb who demanded payment for my food I was embarrassed to find I had left my wallet rn the rocket ship but Mrllronnarress Barbara Rogers came to the rescue and pard my bill As I started out the door I was practically knocked off my feet bv Pat Smith and Jean Ridgeway famous lady wrestlers rn a heated discussion with therr manager Dave Krieger Outside I found Sue Skinner Bettv Sturdrxan and Clara Sunkler waiting with rrckshaws They told me they were members of Barbara Uphoff S Rrckshaw Service and were competing against the horse drawn carriages of Shirley Will Juanita Sny der Transportation Co I was just deciding whrch one to take when Margaret Wlnegar and Allyne Endicott drove up on a motor scooter I climbed rn the side car for a sight seeing tour I w as sorry to see Venus setting because I must be getting back to Earth I had the uneasy feeling that there was someone I had missed As I was circling the field rn mx rocket ship I saw the person for w hom I was looking Below me Pat McCool was working rn his greenhouse where he w 'rs raising Irish pot rtoes that smelled like wild Irish roses Having seen all the 49 ers I turned happily homew'rrd setting mv course on Redmond U S A Earth ! r , ' ' AL 7 ' I c X x A ' . .
