PRIIPIIECY One peaceful evening as I was sitting before the fireplace after a hard day, my mind wandered back to the school year of 1945-46. What had happened to my classmates? I heartily wished to know. Just then there was a whoosh and a soft plump. There before me on the hearth was a little old lady with soft eyes and straggly hair, wearing a ragged, time-worn gown and carrying a little, old-fashioned drawstring purse. She informed me that she was here to grant my wish. With that, she threw some gray dust upon the fire. Then before me the scenes of the fortunes of my classmates unfolded. First there appeared a fashionable salon managed by Eloise Gregg the designer for the famous make of women's clothing Now You See Them Now You Dont Just as I was about to gasp at her good fortune in came Ethel Anderson the great actress of stage and screen rn New York and her agent Eva Sturdevant After their greetings I heard Eloise mention that Verna was a blues singer rn Paris It seemed that she had all the suave Frenchmen swoon rng Then Ethel added that Bob Magnuson had fashioned a suit for the president of the United States It has been rumored that he was the best tailor rn the crty Imagine that' Just then rn rushed Fred Stevens policeman rn search of Joan Logan Lady Raffles and Bud Krrbs who rt seems had stolen a hair prn from Moray Mansfield the dancer at the Club Trocodero aerralrsts and stars of the show As I looked around for more familiar faces I spied John Neal the human cannon ball and Janice Davis a bareback rider Janice was Just then doing a double somersault into the an from the backs of two running horses And guess who was on the sidelines eagerly watching the show and looking for customers It was none other than the two owners of Henry and Sabin Mortrcran Company Roy and LaRae I never thought Id lrve to see them as undertakers I suppose their favorite saying was Draw up a coffin and lre down when greet1ng a friend Then rn the crowd eagerly watching the performance was Doris Grubb the model for Dyna Mite the comic strips Barbara Wyckoff and Irving Steers owners of the Chewrt gum factory and Maurice Leighton the boy who rs strll a freshman rn college Nearby was a srgn stating that the wild animals were furnished by Dolores Thornton adventurer and hunter rn South Africa Her assistant on the latest expedition was Don Gomer scientist The next scene was at a stately college for girls rn society managed by Phyllis Larsen and Jo Ann Moody As I watched I noticed Norm Wergand the English teacher and Judith Keyes the social economics teacher strolling about the campus Also I saw Ross Kellogg the author of the popular book for high schools and colleges AN EASIER WAY TO WORK PHYSICS PROBLEMS going into the office building Then yvho should come along but Connie Jensen the kindergarten teacher from a nearby school who was vrsrtrng the campus Then I saw the three owners of the McDaniel McDaniel and McDaniel Scientific Wrecking Company Bevo Dan and Jeff Therr motto seems to be You burld em up by might and we ll tear em down by scrence I guessed the college wanted that old building on the corner of the campus demolished What a person can t do with atoms I was contemplating thrs when the scene changed to the business office of Charles Keegan the president of a factory manufacturrng Drrtyex the successor to Kleenex Ben Daniels the good will ambassador to Mexico was talking to Charles It seemed that he wanted Charles to starta Drrtyex factory rn Mexico Crty to further good y rll and ard economic conditions as well Reporter Brll Johnson was covering the affair Just then Farlergh the captain of Ye Ol Droop ran rn shouting that he yvanted some Drrtyex to stuff rn a hole rn hrs shrp He added that Drrtyex could do anything It seemed somewhat like a plug for the manufacturer As Jim left Shirley Tuck came to see Charles as he was the sponsor for her radio program Adyrce to the Loyelorn She looked Hacker s factory that manufactured Hackers Dainty Dorlres for Dotrng Houseyy ry es and Janet Cowles and hubby They had to leaye their sey en children at home rn care of the nurse Over rn one corner I saw Ronnie McDonald handsomely dressed and just back from the Arabian desert where he was king of a colony and had quite a harem Not far ayy ay were Jean Pickles and Lorraine Ayres strll the rnseparables and matrons of a local orphanage Then the picture became more refined as rt yy ent to the stage of the Snazzy Opera House owned by Ivan Bodtker It was noted for its all men casts On the stage Brll Ayres the hero was hay ing a sword duel with Clyde Hutchens the villain over Bob Toney the heroine Standing rn the background was Millard Roberts, the poor groom who was on the verge of fainting at any moment In the orchestra leaders box I discovered Ed Mollman as he went into hrs finest gymnastics leading hrs 72 prece orchestra Then all the pictures faded and the flames leaped high into the chimney Little old Lady Time laughed softly and vanished I looked foryy ard to onlv a dull life as an old maid school teacher thankful at least to have seen what had become of the class of 46
