U. At our first class meeting we dis- covered our sponsor to be Mr. Marshall Everett. Mr. Everett al- ways began our meetings with a quiet, dignified shut up to which we hardly ever responded. Poor Mr. Everett finally relinquished his well-worn duty to Mr. Robert Juhnke who began a quiet deter- mined reformation for us. Managing to fly right into our sophomore year, we started out with a bang! A hayride! Everyone seemed to have a good time with very few casualities. All during this year we tried desper- ately to think of ways to enrich our treasury, but found that the only sure way was to collect the dues fwhen we couldj. When we sprouted up to the junior stage, we gave the last January prom ever to be heard of in R. U. Our Rhapsody in Snow was given in Ypsi. After this, we began to feel the weighty responsibil- ities that would be thrown upon when we assumed our positions as wheels of the school . Ah! Now we were seniors! Our first project was the annual Christmas Tea. All the girls worked so hard getting the punch and cookies read and then--lof all daysll--school was called off! Rea- son--blizzard---snow---piles and piles of it! We elected Paul Niestroy as president of our class so he could bear the burden of getting us through to graduation. Frankie Patton was elected Vice Presidentg Joan Lambert as secretary, and Jerol Lee Carter as treasurer. What a time we had! We planned class day as best we could lYou never can tell what will happenj. Wills, the prophecy, and the giftatory were tossed together. On that fateful day in January 1952, we, the graduating class, left R. U. with memories cherished,'and not so cherished. And--so ends the history of the January Class of 1952. 16 President SALLY WANGBICHLER The greatest gift is personality. Class President 3 Class Vice Pres 1 Student Council Pres. In September, 1948, we were a group of terrified and mystified freshmen, suffering the abuses of the higher classmen ibut that didn't last longl. After all this was over we settled down to being one of the most imusual freshman classes in history. We went around pick- ing on the upperclassmen, instead of the former vice-versa condition. On top of that, we were the first class to have freshman cheer- leaders, and our girls were the only ones ever invited to the Christ- mas tea. By the next fall we had assumed our places as upper-classmen fthe freshmen picked on usb. This year Mr. Burton's fflsoard of Edu- cation was introduced into the boys' class meetings. Ralph Carlton will testify that even though the board worked overtime to maintain order, it fell arrears in its business. Our big dance that year was the Kickoff Dance which netted us 560. When we became Juniors we tried a repeat performance on the Kickoff Dance deal. The result was a net profit of 5.26, as some blithering idiot melted S10 worth of ice cream in the Home Eco- nomics Room ovenl???! f at F125 31 Z CONTIN UAT ION OF THE CLASS HISTORY This year we were vitally interested in the Student Council elec- tions as two of our more illustrious classmates, Sally Wangbichler and Bill Doty, were the candidates. It was a hot tamale of an elec- tion and Sally finally emerged as the first girl Student Council Pres- ident in Redford Union history. Of course, being Juniors, it was our duty to put on the ,J une Prom. We were ready and willing, but completely devoid of funds. We still can't remember how in the world we ever raised the cash, but we gave one of the nicest proms in a long time. Leonard Stanley, of television fame, provided the music, and we must say Mr. Stanley did a wonderful job ------- signing autographs. Now we are Seniors ---- stuck-up, important, regular intelligensia. We elected Sally Wangbichler as our class president and Bill Doty as our Vice President. Our main concerns this year were our class trip, and our revolutionary changes in the class day ritual. We decided to take a three day cruise to Mackinac Island for our class trip and about ninety of us went off on the joy-ride. Now our high school careers are over. With a sigh of relief, a tearful eye, and a sense of gratitude to our teachers, we close the last page in the history of the June Class of 1952. 32 '44 N5 -NNE.. Q. U. losing to Walled Lake, 7-6, in a non-league game. After this defeat, we bounded back and won all five league games. We held every team scoreless except Belleville, who came within one point of tying the game 13-12. With every game we won, the tension grew. Each one putting us closer to the championship. Redford Union's triumph over Plymouth in the last league game 20-0 completely fulfilled the hopes of the fans, the students, and the players, for this was the first football championship won by Redford Union since 1942. V We ended our schedule with defeats by Van Dyke and Inkster in non-league games. All in all, this was one of the most successful seasons in our history. 0 GENE BOND AND PAUL NIESTROY ' Co-conspirators and co-captains i Portser carries the ball for the Panthers to win over the Belleville Tigers 13-12. 48 VAR l'l'Y F00'l'llALL Front Row: D.
