It is important for us to know and understand how science will affect our lives, and how we, as seniors, will fit into this period. Because of the International Geophysical Year's basic importance to everyone, especially to us as future career men and women, we chose to pattern our yearbook after some of the facets of IGY. The International Geophysical Year is an eighteen month period which began July 1, 1957 and will end December 31, 1958. Thousands of scientists from many nations are working together in the hope of gaining more knowledge about the earth and universe. Specialists in many fields will probe into the depths of the oceans, inner structure of sheets of polar ice, and investigate the interior of the earth itself. It is hoped that through co-operative learning the completion of the Geophysical Year may bring peaceful living throughout the world. ln order to progress scientifically we will have to progress toward peace. It is also hoped that space travel may soon be possible as a result of the studies on satellites, gravity, weather, and interplanetary rockets. The teaching of the principles of IGY is not iust the science department's iob. lt should be the aim of all tecgchers and educational organizations alike. We hope our theme proves to be both interiesting and enlightening to everyone who reads the Blazer. . 5 1 Ei 'f ,mi ......,, -MH f' 2 4474 ,, 5 A fly , I K , C ..,, up ,W .W ..,, , 5 - if nj . 2 ,, ' . -7 ' ,, ' ?ff r0'7,4.1 sf' .
