Homer A. Clark Principal Dear Seniors: 'l'his edition ot the Blazer, coming as it does in the closing days of your high school career, provides an opportunity to say a few words of farewell to those of you who are leaving Redford. We who have had a part in your preparation wish for each of you the very best ol success in whatever path lies ahead. These paths will be varied, we know. Some of you will be going on to college for further training, some into jobs in the business or manufacturing world. some directly into marriage and establishing a home, and some into the armed services before taking up one ci these paths later in life. Whatever the path may be we hope in some way we have helped prepare you for citizenship, for after all that is our goal. In the early days of our oountry, Thomas Iefferson wamed that Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty. Before we can be vigilant we must know what to be on the watch for. We must know how to interpret things that happen. We must know what to advocate and what to opp-ose. The price we must pay for our freedom seems to be a matter of knowing what goes on around us and understanding it. Our knowledge rnust extend far beyond the community in which we live. We must know what goes on in both our state and national govemments. More, we must fortify ourselves with a knowledge of world affairs-for they affect us all. We must watch what goes on at home and abroad. Things that happen across the ocean may concem us as much or more than what goes on in the next country. In order to understand these things and their possible effect on us, we have studied English, history, civics, economics, mathematics, science, and foreign languages. We have studied these things not necessarily for their own intrinsic value but because they all contribute to this background oi understanding that will make you a better citizen. We hope we have prepared you well. Come back to see us whenever you can. Keep this edition of the Blazer. ln later years it will become even more valuable as it assists you to recall those years twe hope happy yearsl, that you spent at Redford. Sincerely your friend, Ziff Homer A. Clark Fifty-four Marian Devine Laurence Chickering 34 Q ' Ellen Egan Clarence Blanchard Fred D. Leonhard Assisant Principal .. :.. , it S KZ r -,a A- :.,. Looking over our high school years, we see that we have been like musi- cians-players in a giant symphony. The music we have produced during these years we leave behind us. lt con- sists of the work we have done, the clubs we have joined and formed, and the sports in which we have partici- pated. Of course, the music we have writ- ten is of varying quality. Although it was very important at the time it was written, much of it will never be re- membered, as many songs are not. The rest of it is only mediocre, and may live 3 37 53 63 79 I Qc-Qx as long as a year or so. But it is the remaining part that counts-the very minority-the few compositions that we hope will survive, as our lasting contribution to our school repertoire. Iust as some of our music stands out, so do a few individual composers for their outstanding compositions in sports, studies, and extra-curricular activities. Our music might never have been written, however, had it not been for our conductors-the parents and teachers who inspired our composi- tions. And, therefore, it is to them, our conductors, that we dedicate our last composition of Redford- this year- book. fftajy' Vocational B. W. Gaerttner ..... -ca aggr- A' Howard A.
