Myron Horowitz presents the BLAZER REDFORD HIGH SCHOOL T DETROIT, MICHIGAN 5'-T' HJ Dear Seniors: Within a few days you will be leaving Redford. We, who have had a share in imparting the education you have acquired while here at Redford, and Vthefmolding of character that accompanied it, bid you farewell. We do so with giggled feelings. Yours is that priceless age in life when you are old enough,-to begin to think as an adult, but are not yet old enough to have lost that precious idealism of youth. We all hope for you that the imprint of Redford will serve to steady you as you go down the road to whatever future there is in store for you. As more and more responsibilities settle on your shoulders, there will come times when you might be led into feelings of futility, insecurity, and despondency. We sincerely hope that, in those moments, you will be steadied to see that in the home, it is neither poverty nor wealth that counts, but the assumption of responsibility. In school it is not fine books, varied curriculum, or abundance of apparatus, that counts, but inspiration and hard work. In the world, it is not too good a start, but opportunity and struggle that counts. Wherever the future beckons, you carry our best wishes for ,success and happiness. , Sincerely your friend, ZZ? The team had many outstanding in- dividuals. George Smith's resourcefulness at quarterback and Dick Irvine's booming punting were examples of this. In their opening game, Redford lost a heart- breaker to the U of D Cubs, 26-20. The Huskies' attack was hindered by fumbles and many mis- takes. Each man played his heart out, but the Cubs proved too strong for our relatively inex- perienced team. Inthe second game, the Redford team bounced back, defeating the Western Cowboys 13-7 with a winning touchdown in the final minutes of the last quarter. Then came Miller, and, in a hard fought battle between both teams, the Huskies managed to squeeze out on top of an 8-6 decision. It was a grueling game, but the hard charging defensive line play of the Redford team produced a safety that was good for two points and the game. Redford met Chadsey next and lost by a 7-6 margin. The game wirming point was scored by VARSITY FOCDT BALL Row One-Andrew Sommers, Dave Sylvester, Al O'Brien, Dick Bagnall, Roy Schreck, Tom Williams, Dick Ander- son, Ken Borgne, Bill Comai, Ken Nuznoff. Row Three-Bob McGuire, Dave Hunt, Lawrence King, quick thinking on the part of the Chadsey kicker. The pitch from center for the extra point after touchdown was bad, but when he saw the whole Redford line charging him, he made a neatly executed run around his left end to score the winning point. Next, Redford met Mackenzie under the lights of Wyomingfieldfor the fifth game of the season. Again, the team lost by a 7-6 score. Then came the traditional rivals, the Cooley Cardinals. The Huskie team fired up from its two previous defeats, pounded out a 12-0 vic- tory over its hard-fighting, but outclassed rival. To close the season with a winning record, the Huskie team needed a victory over its last opponent, Central. The game was played on a cold, windy day during the first snowfall of the year. The Central team proved too much for the Redford team to handle and gave the Huskies a 26-13 licking. The Huskie team must be given credit, how- ever, because it scored only one point less than its opponents. Redford 78, to its opponents 79. The team is also distinguished since it beat Western, the Metro League Champions, in its scheduled season game, 13-7. In the past four years, they have either shared the title, or held it outright. In their first meet, the Husky swimmers met their traditional rivals, the Cooley Cardinals. The Red and Gray came out on top, 59 to 32, to chalk up their first win of the new season. The Western Prospectors proved too strong for the Huskies, winning, 51 to 40. It was a hard fought battle, with Western taking the last two events to win the meet. Then Central gave the Redford squad an opportunity to prove their fighting spirit by overpowering them 50 to 41 . The next three opponents, Chadsey, Southwestern, and North- western never had a chance, as the Huskies rolled over them, 65 to 26, 72 to 19, and 67 to 24, respectively. This produced for the Redford swimming team, a record of six wins' and one loss for the season, which threw them into a three-way tie for the West Side Championship with Western and Mackenzie. GLEE CLUBS SENIGR PLAY On the nights of November 1 and 2, the audience in the Redford High School auditorium saw a hilari- ous play presented by the class of January, 1952. The play was appropriately entitled The Patsy , for it revealed the hardships of a younger daughter. Patricia was the patsy of the Harrington family. Grace, the older sister, seemed to be able to do anything she pleased. Mrs. Harrington favored Grace since they were two of a kind-always nag- ging about something. Mr. Harrington was a good fellow and always gave his affection to Patricia. However, Patricia did get into some odd situations. If she wasn't worrying over Mr. O'Flaherty and the silver cup, she was trying to get Tony Ander- son, Grace's ex-boyfriend, to fall in love with her. Grace, at the same time, was giving her love to the wealthy Billy Caldwell, a better catch in the eyes of her and Mrs. Harrington. Between the involved situations and the humor- ous love affairs, the play' came through as a great success under the able direction of Mrs. Joyce Trot- ter and the student director, Doris Dickinson.
