A dream. A plan! A reality!! Years of work advanced the idea of the unique Redford Seal from the first stage of its development to the last. The efforts of many past Redfordites whose names will never be remembered are immortalized in many of the special features which they contributed. For the first time, the challenging motto That I May Serve inscribed on the Seal, becomes the official pass- word, the sacred obligation of a Redford graduating class, the Class of January 1947, and of the many classes that will come after it. How fitting a motto to have as we leave school and play our part in constructing a world of peace! The Seal itself has a significant meaning. The impressive owl, portraying wisdom, which rests against the shield can be seen any morning as you enter the new building and gaze up at the crest surmounting the tall columns in the front edifice. The flaming torch on the Seal represents the never-ending flow of wisdom. Thus-R.H.S. could be called the owl and its thousands of students, the torch which goes forth carrying wisdom to the far corners of the earth. Dick Yocum, who designed the cover of the Yearbook, and Roy Axford, who submitted the final drawings for ap- proval by the faculty committee, deserve special recogni- tion for their important part in bringing the undertaking to its final stages. The original sketch was created by Richard Sprague, Redford graduate, now serving in the Army in Germany. lt has been a dream fulfilledp teachers and students alike have made it possible. ln the years to come as we look back at our class rings and school an- nuals, we will relive the pride of being the first class to graduate under the official watchword of the Redford High School Seal. 1184
