During your four years at Redford you have felt the most tremendous war of all time. You have known the thrill of co- operating in all sorts of high school war activities: scrap drive, paper drives, Red Cross, the gigantic war bond sales, and many more. Dear Seniors You have been leaders in all these war activities. Well done good and faithful servants. ' The war with all its attendant horrors is over, for which we thank God. But great problems of adjustment lie ahead of us: social, indus- trial, and economic. You boys and girls, the men and women of tomor- row, have a call to service just as important and demanding as that which called our youth to serve in the armed forces. If our country is to go forward to internal peace and prosperity, you, together with the graduates of recent years, must accept this call to serve your country. You must give freely of your best thought, your time, and your strength. This old world, bruised, restless, and uncertain, needs your clean-cut, unselfish help and guidance. Redford High has been a leader in all war activities And it, through you its graduates, must be a leader now-tomorrow. More power to you! Sincerely your friend, WM. R. Evidence of his success may be seen on pages two and three of this issue. Under thc direction of Mr. Walton, who five years ago organized and since then has sponsored the photography staff, Ken Bell and Don Emery turn out most of the pictures used by the Outpost and yearbook. Photography no one can igure ow fo W. R. B. G. W.R.B.G., under the direction of Mrs. Grace Page, plays a vital part in the life of the school. Most important is the Thursday newsletter, prepared and broadcast to the record rooms by Jack Beresford, who selects his information from up to-the-minute items collected by Miss Van Houtcn of the journalism department. The station features as guest speakers visitors to Redford who have information of interest to students. .lim Westfall, Redford graduate pictured at right, spoke on his experiences in the service. A Christmas broadcast was one of the special programs this term. is the hobby of all three and the probable career of the two boys. Adjoining physics lab 213B is the official hang-out of the photography staff-a dark room which houses one Speed Graphic and one Rolleiflex camera plus the pride of their lives, a new electric print-dryer which reduces the drying-time for prints from two hours to five minutes. The pet peeve of Don and Ken is that some pictures must be taken shortly before a deadline, with resultant late hours and trips back to school on cold, black nights. As compensation, they cite the friendship and advice of Mr. Walton, whom both boys hold in high esteem. run a ficdoof wifdouf fdem. Here, hy means ol' a carefully-planned rota- tion system, she receives training and instruction in one type of work after another until she has an over-all picture of the career opportunities offered hy retailing. wllhe heauty of the plan, said Hrs. For example, art students are generally enthusiastic ahout window-trimming and display. Pupils who have had journalism are naturals for advertising and layout. Home cc majors seem to gravitate to the alteration department, whereas C0111- mercial students are at home in a variety of positions. uAny girlfl she finished, 'Gwho likes people and meets the puhlic gracefully will choose a career in personnel. Each co-op is carefully supervised hoth hy Mrs. Smith and a memher of the store management, hy whom her work in each department is graded. Prohlems that arise at the store are hrought up for discussion in the morn- ing retailing class at Redford. At the end of the course each girl receives an efficiency certificate, issued hy the State Board of Control for Visual Education. which states that she has successfully completed the training. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY A badge to wear proudly is the gold pin awarded each semester by the National Honor Society to outstanding members of the HA. l2B, and 12A grades. It immediately identifies the wearers, throughout the United States, and also in Puerto Rico. Hawaii, the Philippines, Panama, Argentina, and China, as having distinguished themselves in scholarship, service, and leadership. Scholarship is reckoned on the point system, well known through its use in the study hall: A is worth five points, B, three, and C, one. Marks are counted from the 9B, and a final E in any academic subject disqualifies the candidate. Students in the 11A need 100 points for membership, in the l2B, 108: and in the l2A, 112. Miss Eunice Grover is chairman of the faculty com- mittee on membership, and as such is responsible to Wasllington for the decisions made. She also acts as treasurer of the Redford chapter. Only one meeting is held each semester. This is a breakfast at which new officers are elected and new mem- bers welcomed. This term the menu of fruit juice, sausages, scrambled eggs, doughnuts, and cocoa provided the necessary brainfood to start Redfordis intelligentsia on their day's work. After breakfast the members were entertained by the Girls' Double Sextet, and Sgt. Paul Branigin told of his experiences as an Army interpcrter in France and Germany.
