AFTER THE DUST OF THE GRIDIRON HAD SE'I'I'LED THE PHEASANTS EMERGED WITH THE NORTHEAST CONFERENCE CHAM- PIONSHIP. THEY ACCOMPLISHED THIS WITI-I A 8-0 WIN AND LOSS RECORD IN CONFERENCE PLAY. OF THE EIGHT GAMES PLAYED THE GREENOMEN LOST ONLY TWO. THOSE BEING AT THE HANDS OF THE CLASS A SCHOOLS - HURON AND PIERRE. A VOLUME COULD BE WRI'I'I'EN ON THE PHEAS- ANTS PLAY DURING THE '48 SEASON, BUT SPACE AL- LOWS FOR ONLY A FEW HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SEASONAL PLAY. THE OPENING GAME FOUND TWO RUGGED TEAMS BA'I'I'L1NG EVENLY THROUGHOUT MOST OF THE GAME. HURON'S RESERVE POWER WAS THE DECIDING FACTOR IN THE 13-7 SETBACK THE PHEASANTS TOOK IN THEIR OPENING GAMIE. THE FOLLOWING WEEK THE SPEEDY PHEASANTS BOUNCED BACK TO CAPTURE THEIR FIRST CONFERENCE VICTORY BY DEFEATING SISSETON 42-18. GROTON, THE NEXT CONFERENCE FOE. FOUND THAT SPEED AND DETERMINATION WERE MORE THAN THEIR SIZE AND POWER COULD COUNTERACT AS 'I'HE PHEAS- ANTS TRIPPED THEM 26-13, WARMING UP FOR HOME- COM'ING THE BIRDMEN RAN WILD OVER THE DOLAND S TO THE TUNE OF 40-0. HOMECOMING WAS AGAIN VICTORIOUS WITH THE BULLDOGS FROM MIL- BANK FINDING OUT TO THEIR SORROW WHAT THE FETIVE DAY MEANT TO THE TEAM. FINAL SCORE 35-7. CONTINUING ON WITH THEIR CONFERENCE VIC- TORIES THE PHEASANTS SOON SUBDUED WEBSTER 14-0. PIERRE CAUGHT THE PHEASANTS AT LOW EBB THE FOLLOWING WEEK AND TRIIMMED THEM 32-13. FINISH- ING TI-EEIR VERY SUCCESSFUL SEASON, THE GOLDEN PHEASANTS CRASHED THROUGH THE CLARK COMETS FOR THE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP AND HIGH PRAISE FROM EVERYONE WHO HAD FOLLOWED THEIR SEASON.
