ATHOL ARROW At the beginning of the school year the Athol Arrow staff was elected by votes of the Student Body The following students are on the staff Editor Hazel Christ iansen Assistant Editor Marion McNeely Ads, Vincent Jungwirth Sports Reporter Marlin Groft Community News, Beverly Daniels and Helen Hill Humor Ethyl Grohs Typists, Typing Il Class Advisors Mr Herring and Mr Bunsness The paper was mimeographed and published every month Each issue generally consisted of ten pages with eleven firms using the paper for advertising purposes Out of a total of seventy five copies mailed out each month fifty were sent to sub scribers and the remainder to neighboring schools and other places The staff had quite a few experiences in mirneographing the paper, most of them bad Some students had attended a journalism meeting in Redfield the year be fore where they were told that it was possible to do mlmeographing in a white shirt and remain spotless and clean The class was never able to wind up with anything less than spotted and unclean We were always able to identify members of the mixneographing squad by the ink under their fingernails which hardly had a chance to disappear from one paper to the other Of course most members kept their finger nails chewed down SCHOOL PLAY P one act counedy was given by the students ol Athol High School December 1.8 1947 in the school house The title of the play was Don t Open Till Christmas which was under the direction of Superintendent Mr Herring The students who took part in the cast are as follows Janet who wants ice skates Joan Shantz Rarnsey, who wants a razor Marlin Groft Mary Ann who wants a mama doll Arlene Larsen Mrs Bell who wants silver foxes, Beverly Grohs Mr Bell who wants to please every one Vince Iungwirth Lorraine a girl friend Frances Galvin' Brian a boy friend David Burton The above cast was chosen by Ethyl Grohs and Marilyn Galvin The prompter was Hazel Christiansen UPPER GRADE Y C L The Young Citizen s League is an organization of boys a.nd girls Its chief aim is training for citizenship Its Code of Ethics includes these principles Patriotism Duty Courtesy Good Health, Sportsmanship Truth, and Reliability The League Motto is To help Uncle Sarn, one another our school and our community The Y C.L my country by a fare of my state standards of my Pledge recited daily 15 I hereby pledge my active devotion to study of its ideals and by constant interest in the general wel and nation I shall strive to do something each day to irnprove the home my school and my community and thereby endeavor to pro mote better citizenship Our local organization is known as Sunshine League Number 103 We are affiliated with the National Y C L We have joined the Junior Red Cross contributed to the March of D1mes sold Christmas Seals and filled gift boxes for oversea d1stribution The Pres1dent Secretary The following officers have served thus far Lois Groft Richard Gallup Vice President Anita Badger Darlene Manning Marilyn Badger James Manning Treasurer Carolyn Wise Donald Burton WILLING WORKERS NUMBER Z4 lower grades also had a Y C L which was act1ve durmg the entire year Presidents up to now are Wymond Woodward and .To Ann Kegler 1 I , ' 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 I 1 - .. 0 . - 1 O . - 1 - 1 10 I 'U 1 1 1 1 1 1 - 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 - 1 V U 1 . - 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 . 1 1 I O I 1 1 1 . 1 1 1 1 1 v ll 1 1 ' , oo 1 1 , 1 , - 1 1 1 1 ' 11 1 O I I O 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 . 1 ' an 1 1 1 an , 3 1 , . 1 1 O l I 9 1
