SENIOR HISTORY ANCLENT AND MODERN On August 31st 1936 four little first graders Hazel Christiansen Vincent Jungwlrth Helen Hill and Gordon Collins were led by the their znothers to begin their first twelve years of school Of the group only two were left at the tirne of the eighth grade graduation They were Hazel Christiansen and Vincent Jungwirth With these two graduates Ethyl Grohs, who attended grade school t Zell South Dakota was added when they entered their first year of high school in Sept ember 1943 Due to the fact that the Athol School was not opened during 1944 45 the entire high school attended Ashton School was again resumed at Athol in 1945 46 and the same three took their places as Juniors The next year saw the battle drawing to a close and we were indeed happy but as we look back over those twelve struggling years we will think of the fun we ve had and the memories we will cherish SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY The Scrap Iron Lirnited had just pulled into the Grand Central Station at Athol. Denny Hays the depot agent and John William Kegler newly appointed postmaster were on the job A strange man with old clothes, worn out shoes and first but after a while as a few of the old thners carne around they thought they had seen this person some place before After starting a conversation they learned that his name was Vincent Jungwirth who had lived here until the year of his graduation in 1948 They also learned after a long talk that he was a graduate of Yale and had just completed a new invention which would completely revolutionize transport ation The people became very puzzled after they heard this because they wondered why he looked like a hobo They soon received the answer that the patent had not gone throught yet and until it did it would be safer to roam the country looking like a tramp After discussing his past l:lfe he suddenly became very interested in his former classmates of Athol High School Ethyl Grohs and Hazel Christiansen After inquiring he found Hazel is now the wife of a well known railroad ex ecutive and is living in Athol South Dakota a town of about fifty thousand She is a star vocalist in Billy Mitchells Band which is well known throughout the United States She says she keeps very busy minding her five children which include two sets of twins Arnid the rush of the things there was knock at the back door She opened the door and there stood a tramp asking for a handout After looking at him closely she recognized a small pin on his jacket as the pln which Vince had received as President of the Senior Class of 1948 She invited him ln and he ex plalned his invention to her After he had shaved washed and redressed, Hazel suggested that they go see Ethyl who lived on a cattle ranch just a few miles northeast Vince telephoned Jane Ellen Reed who makes baby sitting her business to come and stay with Hazel s children, and they took Hazel s 1968 jet propelled Cadlllac to the ranch In a few minutes they came to the wide-spread ranch, known as the J-E Bar As they drove into the yard two brown eyed little girls came running to meet them. Ethyl and her husband had just driven in from looking at some of the two thousand head of cattle. 'l'hey recognized the car and Hazel. As Ethyl walked ln, she saw Vince happily playing with her two little glrls. She was very surprised and invited them to a steak supper. As they sat together eating, they recalled many memories and thought of all the fun they had had ln their school days.
