Now at last comes the peak in improve- ment-our new high school building. The State Department has approved the archi- tect's plans, and we're going full steam ahead. ls it any wonder then, that after this close inspection of our school. l consider 1954 our record year? lt's a record year in another way, too, because for the first time this year, we're presenting a real record for you to play on your phonograph whenever you like. When you hear some of the football yells and school songs and class activities, l hope you'll relniniscc for a while and think of good old RVHS. Wye-ll, kids, lill be with you throughout the book, so why don't we begin right away to follow our record year at Redbank? Turn the page there. and letis gol ,3- Page 2 58 66 72 , ,.,. Our Record Year A Record A Record A Record A Record CONTENTS of .... of .... of .... of .... -4, Reminiscences --- Action ---- Play ---- Friends CLARK E. RAY M Ed University of Pittsburgh Qupervising Principal of Schools Tops on Gur Hit Pcirode Speaking of a record year at Redbank Valley must necessarily include our principal, Mr. Kata, and our supervising principal, Mr. Ray. I see lVlr. Kata every day as he rushes from one job to an- other-from signing morning excuses and handling ticket sales to making announcements and arrang- ing schedules and activities. He's a good friend of mine, too, because, as you already know, l'm the school's mascot and Mr. Kata and I attend as many of the schoolis functions as we can. You'll usually see us at the football and baseball games. the plays, the wrestling matches, or the band concerts. He's one of the busiest persons l know. l know Mr. Ray is busy, too, for l've peeked JOSEPH J. KATA High School Principal into his office several times, and he's always sur- rounded by directors or teachers or salesmen or secretaries. He finds time to do all his school work plus indulge in a favorite pastime of his-square dancing. You should see how good he is! Mr. Ray,s biggest headache now is trying to get our new school built. He's been working with the consolida- tion for the past four years, and l imagine it gets discouraging at times when red tape delays prog- ress. At least he knows the students and I appreciate his hard work. Both these men have been the guiding forces in the direction of our school activities, and have revealed their philosophies as they work. They've helped make this our record year! Here are: Susanne Angehr, Secretaryg Donald Mc- Gregor, Vice-Presidentq Barbara Strong, Treaxurerg and Nancy Patchen, President. Eighth Grade Well, here l am again to add the eighth grade's events to the record book. The class started out with a skating party at Alcola, followed by a bake sale that brought in more money to the treasury. There were homeroom parties, too. I know because I've been to some, and you should see the stack of food to eatl The Student Council plaque for the best decorated homeroom went to SA, and they deserved it with their religious theme. There are 155 students in the class, and I wish every single one of them would stay around to graduate. Maybe if l'm extra persuasive, they will! The card index in the Library isn't so difficult to use after all. Crude Eight: How I-11. Bish. A. Maguire, A. Kuhns. IJ. Bright, .I. Bover. R. I WvIIcPr, If. Shivk, IJ. Eherhart. II11w 2-M. After all, l do feel honored that the various teams chose me as their mascot and even call them- selves the Redbank Bulldogs. Our high school really does break a record for its wide sports program. We have a more rounded sports schedule than any other school in the county. First in the year. therels football. live been to lots of football games on the home field and nothing. not even defeat, can take away the look of the green under lights or the cool crisp air or the quiet while the Star Spangled Banner is played. Baseball is spring, and spring is when a young man,s fancy turns to thoughts of home runs and Helders and outs. Track is here, too, for the high jumper or fast runner. The meets are interesting. too, because everything seems to be happening at the same time. A sharp eye is needed then. , Anyway you look at it, our gym probably sets a record for being the smallest in the county. Someday - and that's a word that might pertain to a time in the very near future - we'll have a larger place for sports. l can hardly wait till then. hut in the meantime I know the morale and spirit of good olcl RVHS will continue to surge higher and higher. Seven of these were returning lettermen, but six of the boys were linemen. lVIr. Caldwell had to do some shifting to the hackfield before practice could continue. Backfield positions were shared by Wilson, Larry Smith, Reddinger, Young and Dempster. The line was covered hy McGregor, Bailey, and Fred Doverspike.
