Red River Theatre Becomes Camelot ln the tradition of excellence found on Red River's stage, this year's drama and music departments presented the Alan Jay Lerner, Frederick Loewe production of Camelot with much success. This musical is considered difficult to produce even among professional acting troupes, but Red River achieved a degree of excellence that would be envied by anyone attempting to perform the show. Camelot is the story of King Arthur. who as a young lad turns to Merlin for guidance in ruling. When Arthur meets his betrothed Guenevere. his ruling changes to that of a mighty king. Arthur creates the round table and invites all knights, rich or poor, young or old, to come to Camelot and begin a life of crusading for right and honor -and justice. Camelot is stumbled upon by a jocular old king by the name of Pellinore who becomes a warmly accepted addition to Arthur's court. Then one day, the call of the Round Table is heard in France by young Lancelot du Lac and he comes to Camelot to become a knight. From the beginning he is unliked by the court. His confidence and blunt sincerity is mistaken for arrogance and conceit. But Arthur extends to Lancelot his friendship and it is not until Lancelot restores the life of a knight whom he accidentally killed while joustlngthat the court accepts him. E7 32 musical
