Cast of Insects Portray Man's Life lVlan's life, paralleled through butterflies, beetles, crickets, flies, and ants, takes on exciting char- acteristics. This intense play by two Czechoslovakian playwrites, Carl and Joseph Capek, illustrates that an understanding of the world of the insects and their lives can be synonymous to an under- standingoftheworldwelivein. A vagrant, portrayed successfully by Jim Torkelson, falls drunken into the world of the insects. Here he witnesses the continuing flirtatious chase of the butterflies: the beetles, who strive to build their pile: the crickets, who want only to have and raise a family: the ichneumon fly, who would even kill for his child: the parasite, the warlike ants: and the moths, who alone know the meaning of life. Children's Theatre Presents Japanese Legend Winter theater at Red River opened with the children's theater production of the story of Urashima Taro. A Japanese fairytale, the play takes place long ago on an island of Japan. Urashima Taro, a poor fisherman, saves a giant sea tortoise. Taro's bravery is well known and news of it has spread all the way to the kingdom of the Sea Princess. The princess calls on Taro to save the sea kingdom from an evil sea scorpion and returns to his village only to discover he has left his youth in the sea. However. he does not regret his quickly passing life because it has been so full and he challenges all men to live life to its fullest. The childrens theater cast is as unique as its audience. The actors. director J.E.
