Norwegian Added to Language Program Norwegian became the fourth language to be offered by the Foreign Language Department this year. Be- sides Norwegian, four years of French, three years of German, and four years of Spanish are offered. Be- sides emphasizing speaking the language, the depart- ment strives, through programs and travel, to study the people and cultures of the countries. This year the Spanish Club went to Minneapolis to see the national folklore dances, and this summer fifteen students will visit Mexico on a study tour program. During the school year Jim Goodman, Jean Miller and Kay Kochenderfer spent two weeks in France, and Amy Raibon and Sue Swenson visited Germany on study tour programs. Literature, Speech, Writing Make Up English Program At Red River, English means more than grammar. A- long with a minimum of basic grammar, the majority of the emphasis is placed on literature, ranging from early English writings to contemporary American li- terature, and writing and speech techniques and lm- provement. The department also offers electives in drama, journalism, and photography. Working to en- force concepts in these areas are eight teachers, work- ing in both flexible and structured programs. A.
