The winter of '82 was one to remember - ice, snow Arctic winds with -70 degree wind chills, deep drifts - and 8 snow days! However, there were many other memorable events around the state, the nation, and the world during the 81-82 school year. Some of those events were disheartening, the world seemed to be in a state of perpetual unrest. El Salvador looked, for awhile, like another Viet Namg Poland was under martial law, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat was assassinated, and another attempt was made on the life of the Popeg war in the Falklands seemed inevitable, and closer to home - and our pocketbooks - were the continuing recession, the rising unemplyment, and the constant debate over Reaganomics. Not all the news was bleak: the Columbia space shuttles had continued successg women across the country cheered the appointment of Sandra Day O'Conner to the Supreme Courtg the Royal wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Din was followed by a royal pregnancy. While wearing our Calvin Klein jeans and Izod shirts we amused - and confused - ourselves with the Rubik Cube or we fell victim to Pac-Man Fever. We watched movies like 'lRaiders of the Lost Ark and 6sOn Golden Pondl' and, when we could arrange an afternoon at home, we watched General Hospital. 1982 - well into a new decade - a decade in which we will Hgrow up to face the challenges - and the promises - of life on this planet called Earth.
