Its the Math Club addition to our Junior College extra curricular schedule-grown to its present sturdy size by its large and hard-working membership. lte leaves ot' the Math Club branch, last tall, elected Marjorie Ander- son as our Presidentg Weymer Liljedahl Vice-presidentg llelen Dean llmphreys was Secretary-Treasurer5 and Hilaire Doolittle has ably fur- thered our interests in the Student Council. ln our monthly meetings gre have spaced our studies with a picnic, a trip to the local Booster Station, a tour of the Murphy Plant, and a talk on Home Economics by Miss Brock. It has been our aim to entertain and educate ourselves along a scientific vein during the past nine months. --PAGE TWENTY- FIRSI ROW. Korliss Jordan. M. C. A. Since its organization in 1938 it has grown stronger year by yea1'. The purpose of the club is to promote high religious standards and to create a feeling of good will in the school. The g1'oup meets every Wednesday noon in the home economics room for lunch. Following the lunches they have a guest speaker. The trend in the speeches was toward vocational guidance that they might be better able to choose one for themselves. They have assisted the Girl Reserves in several of their programs. For the annual Girl Reserve Christmas party they repaired toys. Last summer several members attended a spec- ial camp. Eleven seniors, ten juniors and two sopho- mores received football letters and two, both juniors, received letters for their work as student managers. At Red Oak's home- coming game the hosts smashed their worthy guests, Villisca, 21-0 to win its third Hawkeye- Six game. The highlight of the evening was the crowning of the Football Queen and her attend- ants. Phyllis Wenstrand, elected' by the student body, reigned as Queen. Annabel McQuown, Joan Overholser, Virginia Pet- ty, and Marian Miller acted as attendants. Dick Maginn, the Tiger's cap- tain for the evening, con- ducted the ceremony of coronation while Henry, Villisca's captain, stood by. Another headliner of the evening was the presentation of the History of the United States in six episodes by the Red Oak march, ing band. It was just one of the many snappy performances given by them between halves during the season. Special recognition was given five members of the squad. Hay- ward Slim James was elected on the Hawkeye-Six first team, All- Southwest Iowa first team and All- state first team. Kenny Boyer, the mighty mite at guard, was elected on the Hawkeye-Six first team, the All-southwest lowa first team, and received honorable mention on the All-state selections. Plunging Max Swanson was elected on the Hawk- eye-Six first team. Dick Maginn and Duane Peterson received Hawkeye-Six second team selec- tions. Two of these, Max Swanson and Slim James, are returning next year. Only two players received ser- ious injuries during the season. They were Max Schmidt and Clair Doggett. Early in the season, Max, who was a regular quarterback, re- ceived an infected knee, but it did not result from his participation in the sport. ln the first game, Clair intercepted an Essex pass and ran 50 yards but received a broken leg when he was tackled. Neither of the boys were able to return to practice. Eleven lettermen are leaving R. O. H. S. this year. They are: Ken- neth Boyer, John lllingworth, Du- ane Peterson, Dick Maginn, Grant Ashby, Max Schmidt, Lee Good, Charles Hayes, Clair Doggett, Og- den Belt, and Raymond Michel. Sparked by two lettermen, John lllingworth and Hayward Slim James, and an outfit of new suits, the Tigers jumped on the Glenwood llams and experienced their tirst taste of blood in their premiering game of the All-42 season. A Jamesless squad journeyed to battle the Blue Jays oi' Yillisca only to have them fly out ot' the Bengals reach. On the return game at Red Oak, the Tigers caged the Jays by the score oi' 133 to 235.
