One of the opening exhibits was the Mother and Daughter Tea. During the ex- tension of the fair, hobby groups were held on current topics, book re- views, and travel talks were given by visiting celebrities. The Service Committee sponsored a tag day from which money was se- cured for twelve Thanksgiving bas- kets. Then a Christmas party, also sponsored by this committee, was given to the underprivileged children of the city. As a prelude to the Easter holiday, a series of six Bible luncheons were held. Reverend Edgar, pastor of the Congregational church, was chosen to preside. At this season the Service Com- mittee again sent out baskets and also gladdened the hearts of two children by giving them new Easter clothes. In a picturesque room amid a myriad of musty letters and fascinating' chemical formulae, souven- ir postcards and portraits of alumni, somewhere in this asso1'tment we would find the record of our scholastic standings. We would see the names of the students who had represented our alma mater in academic activities in the thirteen years of participation in the Iowa Brain Derby. Only those students who look at perplexing problems from the same point of view as university professors are likely to be honored at this exhibit. Earnest preparation is required for this concession, as the dis- play is given in the fields of language, general and political science and mathematics. lt is indeed an honor when those starring in scholarship attain laurels in the specific exhibit in which they have tried to achieve perfection.
