Foreword This is the 1964 volume of the Red Oak Hawks, students of Red Oak High School. Between the covers of this book we have endeavored to catch some of the memories, the hours of gladness, the days that were not so happy, our associations, and our achievements which have made up our school life. May this Annual pave the way to better and more successful annuals. The Editor, Robert Smith Pago 1 Dedication To a person who we believe truly warrants this honor, the staff proudly dedicates the '64 HAWK to you, Mrs. R. D. Windham. With patience and loyalty you have shared our joys and our sorrows, our hopes and our disappointments. When we were in need, you were always ready to give us encouragement and lend a helping hand. Only in a small way can we begin to repay you for your unselfish service and untiring efforts to prepare us for the future. Pag© 2 A Memorial Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You . . . Ask What You Can Do For Your Country Inaugural Address Jan. 20, 1961 JOHN FITZGEKALD KENNEDY So when a great man dies, For years beyond our Ken The light he leaves behind him lies Upon the paths of men. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Page 3 Superintendent Bob McCrady Superintendent s Message Let us not forget that the chief object of all our school activities is to enhance and to improve the program of general education in our school. May this yearbook be a living memento to the endeavor of this school to not only broaden and enlighten the mind but to ennoble the heart and uplift the spirit of all who come under its influence. Let us not forget that knowledge is our greatest engine of production, that it is the capital that mankind invests to promote the progress that his highly developed culture demands. Schools are the centers where knowledge is made available to the minds of young people in their quest to make for themselves a better world in which to live. Accepting as their credo the concept that everything must change, students make possible the advance that our society needs to retain its vitality. Let us all dedicate ourselves to the noble task of making our school a living symbol of the dynamics which this new age has thrust upon us. Remembering always that education comes only to those who seek it. It cannot be thrust upon you, and it cannot be biologically transmitted to you. Truth shall not long be hidden from those who eagerly pursue it, nor shall doors remain closed to those who tirelessly knock. Pago 4 In Memory of old Red Oak High This is a tribute paid to an old and beloved high school for many years. This school was attended by hundreds of students in its span of fifty years. There was a great sadness in everyones heart when news had been broadcast, that Red Oak High School had burned. These pictures, which were taken before and after the fire, are some of the rememberances, we, the students and exstudents, have left of a great school.
