The weekend began with the cancellation of Red Lionls traditional Homecoming parade and pep rally, thus disappointing many especially the class of 87. The next day, Oct. 18, brought the Homecoming spirit back on a cold and windy day. Kate Sweeney was crowned our queen and gave an unforgettable speech when announcing that the seniors Won the float competition. Victory in the airn was also vic- torious on the ground! Homecoming is a special time for us all, but one that each senior class will treasure forever. If ' ' - 1 . . F' ' i mt - V rw -' -ff' r ., Q, f ,S i- an A t axle-is' ll !' 1 A' V T A . The classes put forth expert effort into their creations. The freshmen Construction site was at Amy Myers'. The Sophomores and Juniors were on Waltemyers Farm, and the Seniors was at Amy Ludwig's barn. Even though the construction sites were scattered all over Red Lion the raidings Cwe won't mention which classj on other floats still continued. The strenuous work, late nights - almost till 2:00 a.m. and sore fingers, from twisting flowers paid off, for the Seniors. The Class of 87'l once again won float competition - Victory in the Air was a victory!! su, W' ,, gf nf., I 13 riff 1 J D Z , V o , V 3 Q 3 , i 1,,1.-f' I A' 'V 1 . He was a natural leader and he led by example. He loved scouts, always working hard for the troop and his personal advancement. He was a talented and dedicated soccer player. It would be hard to find someone who disliked him. He was outgoing and genuinely cared for people. When he was with someone, he was the most important thing at that point in time. Everyone felt Henry's caring. Henry will never be gone, because he will always live in the hearts of those who knew him. All who knew him are better because of his example of dedication, hard work and caring for others. He loved life and enjoyed his friends, scouts, high adventure trips and learning things. His laughter and pranks still ring in our memories. Henry Herrman was a lot of good things but most importantly he was a good friend. Troop 28 Patrol M'kAi'S'kH Henry Herrman Jan. 15, 1969-June 29, 1985 It is the ambition of most people to leave some footprints on the sands of time. We can name many great ones whose fame shall endure as long as man remains on this planet, for their lives have con- tributed much to the benefit of their fellowmen. We can't all be great and famous, but all of us can use what time and talents we have in the best way we can to help others and make them happy. This is to leave shining footprints for someone to follow. SENIOR URERLH QWYO f 336 f QQ M aaa, 8 QB, 3 632 .-:--ig-f . C232 zbgghge Q was X X75 5 rg. A student's ability and capability to learn and memorize is constantly being challenged by numerous tests and ex- ams. At no one time are there more different kinds of tests given than during the years a stu- dent spends at high school. Another exam taken during the high school years was the driver's test. Most students were confident about their ability to drive but having to take the test at the police barracks made them all nervous. Somehow that state trooper sitting in the front seat didn't resem- ble mom or dad. - f Finally, there was the overdreaded semester exam. At the end of 18 weeks we were supposed to remember what we learned, but the only thing we remembered, was what we forgot. Whether we like them or not, we were subject to the terrible pressures of all types of exams. Each student, however, let out a sigh of relief when the weekend rolled around and they didn't have to worry about tests. -1' l c has ssl Miyako Takahashi is a sixteen year old girl from Tokyo, Japan. Miyako likes Red Lion because it's a change for her, from her school in Japan, which is a strict, private girls school. Her reason for becoming an exchange student is because she would like to pursue a career as an English teacher. 4-wan EHS! iV'f.'c I5 CSI Wataru Sonoyamo is a sixteen year old boy from Sagae, Japan. When Wataru goes back to school in Japan, he will have 116 years of school left before he is able to enter college. He would like to be either a science teacher or a salesman. He wanted to see the United States, so that's why he became an exchange student. ly Kirsten Weber is our foreign exchange student from Mechelstadt, West Germany. She is 17 years old. Her host family is Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Slenker, and LeAnn. Kirsten has taken quite an interest in the American ways while being in the United States. At Red Lion she is in Stage Arts where she enjoys drawing. She was part of the tennis team but also loves to ski back home. DINNER With the halls all decked out with tinsel and Santas. the whole school was set for Christmas and vacation!!! In the Red Lion tradition everyone dressed up for the occasion and of course we listened to music performed by the band and chorus. Each year at Christmas time, the AARP from our community travels to the high school. While they are at the high school, they are treated with a meal served by the Stu- dent Council and with a con- cert given by the Symphonic Band. What can you say about the students at RLAHS7 Well, they have their own opinions about almost anything that is being discussed. They have their own habits and interests, and they all have their own goals. In short, they are individuals. Students showed their habits and interests in various ways. Many admitted they still ate kid's cereals and almost everyone came down with the Monday morning blues. Trivial Pursuit was a common in- terest among students although different versions of the game allowed a wide range of choices. Students' goals varied greatly too. While some got involved in doing volunteer work, the majority tried to get out of doing as much work as possible. To this end, much energy went into creative ways of skipping. Just getting up in the morning proved to be a near- impossible task for some. Most of these goals were reached, to a degree, although nobody's perfect. Through it all, the students showed a remarkable ability to be themselves. an 'WMM mum' mm K, ,Mig Hifi W alta ...L : 511' icy . M? X. Q ix: ffl' V E X J :sq use ,Z Nd, My X JQYXN Q ,Qu 3 f 5 - Nix . For what the gir1's tennis team lacked in experience, they certainly made up for in determination, hard work, and the desire to win. Even though our record was not a winning one this year, we should benefit from all that we gained in terms of experience since all five starting varsity players will be returning next year. Although the team was composed of 25 underclassmen and only 4 seniors, tri-captains Tara Renn, Penny Erisman, and Cristie Painter provided excellent leader- ship and helped lead the team to the YCIAA Division A championship. Throughout the season, the girls continued to work as a team, striving for an undefeated season and the YCIAA championship. Not to be overlooked, quite a few girls stood out as superb, in- dividual performers. The outlook for the next season is bright. The team will only lose 2 scoring seniors. This year's seniors provided leadership and incorporated a sense of team unity and spirit that I have not seen on a Red Lion boys track team in quite awhile. In most cases, early season question marks concerning depth and scoring were ably filled by underclassmen who have come a long way since March. Their improvement and willingness to step in and do the job along with the solid leadership and example set by the seniors, made it a pleasure to work with this year's squad. The girl's cross-country team completed their second undefeated season with a 6-0 record. Student Council consists of a group of fifty or more students working to create a friendly school atmosphere within Red Lion Area Senior High School. Not only does council provide students with a variety of entertain- ing activities, such as dances, dress-up days, and multi-media assemblies: but, they also try to meet the concerns of all students in areas of school- related matters. Council tries to impress upon all students that they have a direct responsibility for the everyday running of the school. Through their suggestions council can then make recommendations to the administration with hopes for change or improvement in their areas of concern. Finally, student council urges anyone with an interest in school government and a willingness to serve their school, to become involved in council, either in an executive position or as a class representative. Out in the world so young and alone can memories get us through? Remembering all the super times we've shared through thick and thin a football game a rival team an awesome senior win. Awards received by cheerful ones and plans made for the shore, the highlights of our high school years will live forever more. Our super girls who won the spot of best in all the county, from Lady Lions to volleyball the glory forever in bounty. There are so many people to thank Where do I begin? Jack, Eric, and Matt you three were the best three business managers ever Matt I love those bulletin boards. When the rest of us were going crazy you made me laugh . . . Cand laugh, and laughj. To the LION Sales Team, you gave us the reason to make this thing work. Thanks again. The senior section looks wonderful Gayle and Teresa. Special Events layouts were flawless thanks to Steph. Penny. The clubs were tough but together we were able to do it. Thanks for putting up with my pickiness. To Diane and Darci, the Sports Section is the largest and you did it! Congratulations! Robin I know you're sick of typing but it's over and there's no more proofreading to be done. Index, Underclassmen, and faculty your time spent has all been worth a million dollars to me. Beth the copy is wonderful this year! Thanks. Britt and Corey, I love you two. When I was in trouble you bailed the whole staff out. You're the best friends I could ask for! To everyone who had to face your grumbling teachers with a late pass. Thank-you! And to Mrs. LaRussa, your patience and reassuring smiles will probably be missed most of all. There will never be a more loved advisor or friend. Thank you from everyone. We'll miss you next year! Editor Heather Carr
