DEDIC TIC Freeland E. Shaffer We, the Class of 1977, proudly dedicate our yearbook to Freeland E. Shaffer in appreciation for the outstanding service and dedica- tion he has shown to the students and faculty of Red Lion High School. Mr. Shaffer, who teaches Chemistry and Advanced Chemistry, began his teaching career at Red Lion in 1951, the year he graduated from Shippensburg State College. He received his Masters Degree in Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1961, and has taken additional courses at Montana State University and at Millersville State College. Presently the advisor of the Fly-tying and Fly-fishing Club, Mr. Shaffer also chairs the Science Department and actively participates in church activities. In past years, he advised the Electronics Club, the Photography Club, and the Chemistry Instruments Club. Mr. Shaffer often helps students with individual experiments dur- ing study halls, activity periods, and before and after school. His enthusiasm and encouragement has been deeply appreciated by the Senior Class. Therefore, we take great pleasure in dedicating the 1977 LION to Freeland F. Shaffer. 2

These inter- ' Ncfjflocking figures form the basis for the theme of the 1977 LION. VPEUOW Symbolizing authority and knowledge, the square demands respect. Although sometimes sharp QQ VA and unyielding, if handled properly the square can be the basic building block to your future. There- QQ fore, the square represents the faculty of Red Lion. N-KO K X The triangle represents the students, with the seniors occupying the center and underclassmen the Y- Q ' corners. As the underclassmen shift around the edges, the seniors occupy center stage until the tri- X-XQLJL angle rotates, forcing the center out into the world and taking on a different aspect by adding the new freshmen. 2005 The third figure in our design is the circle, a perfect sphere perfectly at peace with its surround- QUA77 ings. It symbolizes order. Specifically, the circle represents the organizations at Red Lion. With pro- - ' X per co-ordination and co-operation, a triangle and a square combine to create a circular formation rolling smoothly over difficulties and problems Only by joining together can the triangle and the QM Q5 fQC5L3QxQf 'square form the symbol of unity and peace: the circle.
