One of the more serious programs, which related closely to today's chang- ing society, was the drug assembly pre- sented by Teen Challenge. . . . Chosen as the best chemistry teacher, Mr. Shaffer graciously accepted his award for his outstanding achievement in the teaching profession .... Another sus- penseful event included the induction of new members into the National Honor Society, a group known for its scholar- ship, leadership, character, and service. . . . Through the efforts of Carl Seitz, the veterans of World War I, World War ll, the Korean War, and the Vietnam conflict, aroused the patriotic feelings of the audience .... As a part of the musical exchange assembly, Mr. Ward, director of the Junior High Band, led the group in an excellent collection of musical numbers.

The performance of the Winchester Choir, which included many skits, re- ceived a standing ovation when the group depicted a high school principal as the great chief . . . Again, the senior class on its annual Class Day did a fabulous job in imitating Coach Dyke and lVlr. Frits, in pantomiming Rowan and lVlartin's German soldier, and in singing lVlary Had a Little Lamb.

Hoping to spur interest in a career in computer programming, one of our most exciting assemblies captivated the senses through the use of many vivid slides .... As the girls gazed admiringly at the weight litters from York Barbell, the boys stared enviously at their bulging biceps .... The West Virginia Percussion Ensemble, using everything from African drums to an electric bass, made the crowd move to the music. .-1 19
