Mr. John Myers hands to Keith Neff a part of the tractor engine which they are preparing. Those students who are not college-bound select the agriculture and home economics courses. Boys who are interested in agriculture will find our Agriculture Department most helpful in preparing them for a future job. Enchanted couples floated to the music of the Rudy Carrol Orchestra as great and powerful OZ himself looked on. Each class starts work with great enthusiasm and with the expectation of capturing first prize. On Saturday afternoon the winning floats are displayed on the football field as a part of the cheering section to urge our boys on to victory. After the game, everyone hurries home to get ready for the dance that is held in the evening. At the dance the Queen and her court capture the spotlight. When the dance is over, each student leaves feeling a great sense of pride and satisfaction in knowing that the day was one to remem- ber-a winning team and an enchanting evening. Original talent, as well as professional entertain- ment, is performed regularly. Programs such as talent assemblies and assemblies given by the musical orga- nizations of our school provide students with entertain- ment, while lecturers and professional entertainers en- rich our knowledge of the outside world. Some of our assemblies benefit those who have been successful in our many sports programs and give them the opportuni- ty to publicly receive their awards. Finally, much energy is released when our enthusiastic cheerleaders take charge of the pep assemblies during the football and basketball seasons. Well-rounded programs provide our student body with much enjoyment. fa , i W V , ,gray t - ..,, E t 'L- Pioneer Go Home and Truant Angel -l 3 Ale f A--E - , -v-i 1 Ag-i. nf, ll fn 5 .3 12 i 1+--..5,,, . The wood and metal shops also revealed their handiworks which varied from ash trays to boats and surf boards. The home economics department displayed many dresses and suits sewn by future homemakers. :X . Students plan for their futures. STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTION Created as a service to the students, the Student Council is a forum where new and progressive ideas are formulated and acted upon. It is here that the suggestions of the students are expressed to the administration and the two work together for the good of all. This group works throughout the year to unite the school by sponsoring dances, parades, and fund raising activities. One of the many fays that the Student Council acquaints its members with procedures of a democratic organization is by the Student Council Elections. These elections, conducted the same as national elections, give the students a better knowledge of the role they will play as an American citizen. Q X, Qi . Q A F g, Q Su 'jijwffj f , . X, . .g:L.. This year's fall sports season sent the diligent team members as well as the avid golf fans to the greens. York Catholic and York Suburban were the only opponents the Lions failed to defeat. With their impressive record, the team earned second place in the York County Inter- scholastic Golf League. Many hours of strenuous practice go into the skill of playing tennis. Under the leadership of Mr. Paul Hangan, the team entered the York County Tennis League this year and competed with York Central, York Suburban, and West York. Although our team's record for the season was not an impressive one, each member put forth his hardest effort in getting a firm standing for this new sport. Next year offers the opportunity for more students to par- ticipate and to benefit from this invigorating sport. High hopes are in store for next year's team. UPPER LEFT: TENNIS TEAM-FRONT ROW: D. Every season has its sport, and with the arrival of flowers and spring rains, comes baseball, our national sport. No other game is supported so enthusiastically throughout the world. Little boys learn to play baseball before they start to school, and no father is ever too old or tired to toss the ball to his son or to take him to see a game. This sport requires alertness and regular practice as well as team work. Catcher, pitcher, base- man, and outfielders must all work together to bring victory home. Our sports minded school certainly adds its contribution to baseball by its successful record of seven wins and only three losses in 1966. Coached by Mr. Fitzkee, more than twenty-five boys spent many long hot hours prac ticing on the field across the street. The long hours of practice were not futile, and we compliment them on their success in winning all but three of their games. The school congratulates the coach and players and will be expecting another excellent team to represent us this year. base. A yearbook is the result of much hard work, and the members of the LION staff sacrifice many hours to make their yearbook the best. Many activity periods, study halls, and hours outside of school are dedicated to the LION. Efficient staff members are always busy writ- ing captions and copies, photographing, and typing. The activity office, the home of the LION, buzzes with the sounds of busy Seniors preparing to meet deadlines. Under the leadership of the faculty advisor, Mrs. Melanie Stover, the staff members gather and organize the ma- terial for the yearbook. When the hard work is complet- ed, the Seniors eagerly await the arrival of the yearbook. They can then take pride in their achievement and look back on all the devoted hours and fun that went into the making of their LION. D. Oberlander, J. Shive, Mrs. Stover, LION advisor, and J. They attain these goals by competing, sometimes failing, but always learning more about their future oc- cupations. Each member begins his enrollment as a Green Hand and may progress through Chapter Farmer, State Farmer, to American Farmer. The FFA develops the leadership and knowledge which is necessary for these boys to become future leaders in the agricultural field. This year, as every year, Red Lion Senior High School welcomed a group of frightened and mixed-up students- called FRESHMEN. Although they were confused and alarmed at first, after about two weeks of reaching the wrong room and wing, they have settled down to the everyday life at Red Lion. During our pep assemblies this enthusiastic class has been voted to be the loudest group of FRESHMEN ever to reach the Senior High. With James Loyer as President, Jean Hively as Vice President, Carol Warner as Secretary, Janeen Smith as Trea- surer, and Miss Myers as advisor, the FRESHMEN showed intense interest in constructing their float.
