Dreaming not the time would come, When this school We'd have to leave, So with tears we now depart And we'll grieve. Chorus: Dear old Red Lion High School, We must leave you now. This play Was declared by many of the large number who witnessed it to be one of, if not the best, high school presentation ever given here. The cast of characters included: Tom Harrington, Robert Stambach, Marian Davenant, Iessie Seitzg Reginald Black, Richard Holland, Ruth Thorn- ton, Vera Eisensmith, Byron Harrington, Raymond Smith, Iames Roberts, Rich- ard Bull, Dulcie Harrington, Doris Sprenk 'A A an Davenant, William Frutigerg Mrs. Wiggins, Electa Keeports, William E tt Iames, Robert Tschop, Nugata, William Gates, Professor Magee, Russell Smith, Widow Maguire, Dorothy Sin- clair, Dawley, Roy Sechrist. The plot of the play centered around Tom Harrington, a senior in college and captain of the football team. Tom, while really being very lax in his studies, has continually written to his father telling him of honors and suc- cesses. When his father decides to observe Tom's extremely successful college career for himself, that harassed young man is compelled to tell lie upon lie until finally he is found out. With the aid of Nugata he is vindicated, how- ever, and all is well. ff, Ikflffil Page Thirty-eight THE LEONIAN TUNIOR PLAY The Class of 1935 presented as its Iunior Play a three-act comedy en- titled, Iunior Sees It Through. The play was given Friday and Saturday, April 6 and 7, 1934, in the Municipal Building. lt is remembered by many as being a notable improvement over some of the high school presentations in recent years. The cast of characters was as follows: Iunior Harbeckf' Robert Stambach, Lynda Reynolds, Iessie Seitz, George Harbeckf' Robert Tschop, Henry Harbeckf' Raymond Smith, Esther Mae Matthews, Thelma Warner, Ellen Harbeckf' Martha Smith, Grandma Harbeckf' Electa Keeports, Miss Reynolds, Kathryn Smith, Howard Randall, William Frutiger, Morris Shulermanf' William Gates, Iudge Thatcher, Russell Smith. Iunior Harbeck, the hero of the play, was the despair of his family. While Iunior never seemed to do anything of any good, his brother, George, who had won a medal for a prize architectural plan, was the hope of the Harbeck family. George, impressed by his own renown, has a plan to remodel the town in which he lives, and in so doing he is entangled in legal and economical difficulties, leaving it to Iunior to straighten matters out and have the family's opinion of him raised considerably. ,t Page Thirty-nine THE LECNIAN t xv-..-,-.ff ORCHESTRA The Senior High School Orchestra, under the capable direction ot Miss Ruth Whitmore, again enjoyed a successful year, The group of talented mu- sicians turnished the music at both Senior and Iunior plays and again gave a good account of themselves at the York County Scholastic Meet. The new band uniforms do ample justice to the organization. Nitchlcey as Head Coach and Clair A. Frits as Assistant Coach. From all green material, a team was se- lected which won two games, tied one, and lost three. This record is remark- able for the first year, when one considers the fact that Red Lion has never been a center of sand lot football. The season's record follows: Red Lion U, New Freedom 6 Red Lion 2, West York 6 Red Lion U, West York U Red Lion 0, Hanover 50 Red Lion 26, Delta I4 Red Lion 25, Biglerville S Richard Holland, tackle and end, captained the Gold and Black gridders in their first season. Although having very little to show for it, the Lions won 2l games while losing only five. This record closely resembles that of the 1930-31 team, which won 21 and lost four and which is generally acknowledged to be the best in the history of the school. Notable features of the season were: Two victories over Hanover High, a two-point, extra-period victory over North York on a foreign floor, and a four- point defeat by North York at Red Lion, in a battle of long shots, the defeat of Red Lion by Wrightsville, and the victory at the latter place, the first home game the Rivertowners lost for three years, the sensational ten-point victory over Hershey High at Carlisle, and the last game triumph-York High by a 28-21 margin. Under the able leadership of Captain D Hall the Lions scored 841 points in 26 games while limiting their opponents to 549 points. Page Forty-four THE LEONIAN BASEBALL Ah! At last the baseball team makes its appearance. Coach Nitchkey en- joyed keen competition among the candidates at his early spring practices. Much young talent was selected to follow in the footsteps of those upper- classmen who have been graduated. As We glance over the roster ot our 1935 baseball team, we see Captain Bill Payne piloting our aggressive squad which includes: George Stabley, Robert Warner, Eugene Fake, Preston Inkrote, lrwin Trout, Dale Leiphart, Ed- ward Thompson, Quinton Ellis, Leroy Gohn, Robert Manchey, Iunior Kohler, Wayne Glenn, Dennis Geesey. Bert Stein capably holds down the job of head manager. Page Forty-Eve THE LEONIAN TRACK Due to the inclement Weather which characterized April, it was almost impossible to put the track in shape, and the track candidates were prevented from practice many times by bad Weather. However, at the time ot this Writing, Coach Yoas has been able to pick out a capable squad, which again upheld the standard of the Gold and Black at the annual Athletic Meet, May ll, at Red Lion. The members of the squad are: Broad jumpers, Ioseph Knaus, Sylvan Iacobsg high jumpers, Richard Bull, William Mitzel, Weights, Dennis Geesey, Ralph Craley, Robert Manchey, runners, William Gates, Eugene Downs, Charles Sinclair, Verlyn McCleary, LeRoy Gohn, Robert Manchey, Ralph Craley. The Iunior High reserve team lost three games, two to the Hanover Iay-Vees and one to Edgar Fahs Smith lay-Vees. In fairness to the team, Coach Frits, and Captain William Day, it must be stated that several of the games were tough, being lost by small margins and late in the game.
