The Glee Club has a membership of 38 persons. Because of the improved conditions of the school the Glee Club has had more advantages and consequently was able to participate in more extra curricular activities. On the whole the Glee Club has been very successful throughout the year and the practice has been good experience for the members. Sewing Classes In order to be recognized as Junior High School it was necessaray that the seventh, eighth and ninth grades have classes i11 Domestic Art and Manual Training. As there was no available time during the regular school hours, these classes were held at four o'clock, once a week. The sewing classes were taught by Miss XVilson. Miss Kreidler. Miss Tawney and Miss Foutz. The familiar orange and black sewing bags are the work of the girls which also included the making of tiowers, costumes and various garments. To the sewing class belongs the credit of mending the flag and of custuming the Latin play. Vvhlle the work has been somewhat handicapped because of the hour, a great deal of good has been accomplished. Next year we will be fortunate in having an instructor who will devote all her time to the teaching of Domestic Art. '1'he following is a list of students who were in the sewing classes: Beulah Gipe, Emma Grimm. Gertrude Haugh. Greta Heiland, Lorie Hoifman. Vesta Kyle, Violet Martin. Il At this time we should give Miss Sara ll. tlraeff all the credit that she so richly deserves. lt is through her planning and coaching: that Red Lion High has been able to boast of such a championship grirls' team as has been p1'oduced this year. Miss Graeff has an excellent understanding of basketball and one need only to look at the team she has produced to coniirm the above statement. This year's team has tried very hard to uphold the respect and tradition that has gone before it, and they have done just that in an admirable manner. The girls' basket- ball teznn of this year deserves the respect and honor of every student in Red Lion High. It is this team that has helped to put Red Lion High on the map athletically and what is much more it has kept it there. This team is now of the past: it has done its work and done it very well. Next year, another team will be whipped into shape to uphold the traditions of this team, and as each succeeding year breaks forth let us try to make it better than the preceding one. Red Lion High is noted far and wide for the fame of her basket- ball teams. The York County Scholastic Basketball League which was organized tive years ago l1as given tl1e trophy to Red Lion four years out of the five years of its existent-e. spirit which is needed in every school. Did it not make your blood tingle and your spirit reaet when you saw your team coming flown the floor and then with a miraeulous shot put your team ahead and on the road to This year's team was the result of several years 4-oat-l1i11g: and it proved that all was not in vain. The team with the eneouragenient and direetion of our much respected coach immediately stepped into tirst plat-e as the season progressed and never lost hold as the leader. On the team we have Morgan Snyder, forward, who has played varsity basketball for three years. He was eleeted eaptain of the team and he also took honors as the high scorer of the league. He graduates this year. James Thompson. the other forward, very ably helped the team on its march to victory. 'tYotz Olp. our stalward center, led the team in its defense and also in scoring. Preston lVau2htel. the guard who sent many of the teams home with a low st-ore, is probably the best example of the splendid talented players Red Lion has ever had. He gradautes this year. Foster Laucks and Oliver Kinard held down the other guard position. Both have at least two years of basketball and should be a great asset to tl1e coming teams of Red Lion High. Fritz Toomey and Les Urey. both seniors, were a great aid to the team as subs and both did very good work. We also wish to thank Mr. Johnston for the work which he has done to make Red Lion High's team a ehampion. Fi ft y-th ree 1 ff! X .,,. Q. 1 'W' ,I ,. A 'V wx 3, wx, - X , ff Hy , , , . . The material from which he selected a winning combination was exceptionally good. Only a few were seniorsg which fact should indicate a fast and ditiicult team to defeat next year. The team early in the spring was handicapped greatly by weather conditions and had to guard against. sore arms and stil? joints. Nevertheless. the boys kept plugging away and, as a result effected a good combination. Yom Olp will long be remembered by his fellow team mates for his wonderful pitching and for his hitting in the pinches-partieularly, for his hitting in the pinehes. This hike was so successful that since then we have taken about twenty more hikes. All the hamlets within a radius of ten miles have been explored by this ambitious group of girls and jk, among our longer hikes were several to the River and Devil's Hole, our Jf, f-Ay! favorite haunts. No program for entertainment was ever planned for these hikes but we never lack fun. With the songs and antics by some of the talented members of the club to say nothing of the most important feature-eating-time passes JJ' c- ' - Q, 55? E3 rapidly. Around the camp fire at Indian Springs thirty girls joined in feasting on the caloriferous canine and toasted marshmelloxvsg and again at Devi1's Hole, twentyefive ate breakfast which had been cooked over a smoky tire after four miles of hiking and a log rolling contest. Not only the inhabitants of the towns which we visited were interested in us but even the dumb animals, especially dogs, were aroused to curiosity. Rags, a small black dog that followed us on one of our trips, sampled so much of our lunch that he had to be carried home. The only time he tried to walk he made our hearts nearly stand still by almost colliding with a machine. Some of our teachers proved themselves excellent hikers. Miss Hall, Miss Peterson, Miss Brinser, Miss Foutz, and Miss Graeff each have several hikes to their credit. We feel that the meories of enjoyable incidents on these hikes will linger for many years. It is to be hoped that next year the club will carry on its activities on even a larger scale.
