Imagine our surprise when we found that he was none other than Ordin Grimm. He agreed to use all of his powers of concentration to satisfy our curiosity as to the fate of our classmates. He found that Dora Baker and Pervilla Flinchbaugh were teaching school in Jacksonville, Florida and Honolulu, Hawaii respectively. He also found that Alberta Guyger, our Art Editor, had become a famous dancing teacher. Leaving Aristotle we chanced to meet a slightly slim lady in whom we seemed to recognize Marguerite McKee. It was really Marguerite, but much to our surprise we found it no longer was Marguerite McKee but Mrs. Marguerite G+. Comparing dates we learned that she had been the iirst to marry after leaving school. After having dinner with her, she invited us to attend the theater. We were welcomed by soft music charmingly played hy the orchestra. Just as we took our seats it was announced that Miss Eva Laucks. a renowned soprano soloist, would sing. We looked at each other in surprise, but we remembered that Eve took the leading part in Yanki San in our school days. After tl1e opera was over we went to extend our congratulations. She then told us that Ella Miller had become successful as a great National Basketball Player. She said she saw her play the other week with Marion Hall as referee. Then Marguerite said, Oh! Yes! Mervin Tyson is a professor of Latin in New York. Eva then told us that Gladys Zarfos had settled down in Dear Old Red Lion, and was keeping books for her father. XVe left the theater and tl1e11 boarded our train for Los Angeles. When we were on the train we talked of the school mates we had heard of. After the ride in the train we left the station and we11t to look for hotel accommodations. As we entered the hotel 'We met Charlotte Shindler, who told us she was teaching Domestic Science in this city. She informed us that Ruth Perry and D01'0t1ly Heiland were nurses in a hospital in this city. She said that Edna Stell was working ill a library in Los Angeles. As we went dow11 the street we met Kathryn Meads, now a French teacher here. Kathryn told us she had heard that Margaret Holtzinger getting ready to sail for Africa again as a missionary after having 119611 home on a furlough. NVhile in Los Angeles we became acquainted with a family whose daughter attended o11e of the High Schools. Through her we learned that Marie Keeports was her English Teacher. At last our quest was tinished and we were riding east once more to Chicago. We found that our class of '27 was exceeding successful in life. Here the prospeets began to look bright while the eoaeliiiigr of the team was the problem. Then under the leadership of Mr. XY. .l. liothensies. an able leader. the Iligh Sm-hool gained the honors of Vhampions in the loop mentioned above for two sueeessive years and lost out the third year with the title within their grasp. This was the last year for Mr. Rothensies as our eoaeh through some mishap a11d then we found our present 4-oaeh, Mr. Gruver. from Allegheny Iligh. Vnder his leadership and with pram-tif-ally the same team as last year. the boys worked and fought hard. by whieh methods they turned out to be ehampions again, thereby bringing the valuable 1'olaek 'I'rophy to Red Lion forever. The team this year has had experience as a team and it did not take t119111 long to round in to shape and t.hen they started out for the ehanipionship again. Each Iirst place team went down before the Lions until the Lions themselves held that 4-oveted position. VVe see our athletes bestowed with a higher sense of right and wrong, a more beautiful spirit of fellowship. They have ideals and hopes which will be an inspiration for all their lives. In future years we have a firm desire that these hopes and ideals will be given to future students in Red Lion High. We hope that in years to come Red Lion may produce better men and women in the service of their schools, their community and their country and that she may continue to exalt such standards. I s K0l'l'-lfomvalm-Captain Jake was the popular selection as captain to lead us again this year along the road of hardship to fame. He is one of our departing players who has worked hard the last two years and has proved an eiiicient and aggressive forward. He proved to be one of the strongest men in the defensive pay and will be remembered for his manner of determined spirit to win. His loss by graduation will leave a vacancy to be filled from one of tl1e reliable subs. SNYDER-Fonwnnn Mugs is one of our all around athletes, but shows his superiority in basketball. He showed that co-operative value and lighting spirit so necessary to success, while his playing at this position both on the defense and odense was an inspiration to his team- mates and did much to instill in them determination to win. Mugs will more than likely be with us for two more years as he is at present classed with the Sophomores. OLP-CENTER ' Yotz received his youthful training on the Gym floor of Red Lion High under Mr. Rothensies as did the rest of the members of the team. In basketball, Yotz was of great value to us and his playing has been of high order, contributing toward the scoring and breaking up the opponents' plays. He will also be with us for two more years. M IN N ICH-G UARD Nev, getting into the regular lineup late in the season, proved a necessary man in the Red Lion machine. He always gave his opponents plenty of trouble both on the offense and defense. He never cared how much trouble he caused his opponent, but always wanted to win and play the game. His specialty was long shots. NVAPGHTEL-G UARD Wops. our blondy. is known as the stonewall in the Red Lion defense and incident- ally stabbed everything that came his way. The membership feels the practices and training have not been in vain for the tllee Club this year staged an Operetta given in May, something that no other Glee Club of the High School has ever undertaken to put across. Many good times have been had during the year and we feel we owe much to our Instructor, Miss Bailey, for her remarkable patience with us. Besides being an accomplished musician, he has a large number of pupils studying various instruments, not only from Red Lion, but ' ' from the surrounding connnuninty as well. With such a competent director, thc Orchestra opened a very successful year. Although we were somewhat hampered by con- ditions, we did the best work possible under the circumstances. As a proof of our splendid work, we can offer the tine concert which we rendered in the Red Lion Opera House, in which concert we were very ably assisted by the Linden Quartet. This rendition preceded a successful screening of the motion picture Thank You, in which an orchestra composed of prominent musicians from York and Red Lion assisted us by playing the musical score to the picture. This year the orchestra had the unique honor of playing for the cornerstone ceremony held on the site of the new High School building. Later in the year, we offered our services for the various class functions, and thus closed another season for the Orchestra. On the whole, we think that the year has been quite successful. and that our talents along musical lines have been wonderfully developed by our regular rehearsals with the Red Lion High School Orchestra. gf'X . if v Fifty-three THE CUB ramat1c Q7 N '1' THE n1:o1Nv1:vo of the second semester a fil'flIllIlfiC club was organized by tl1ree gtgflgmi 1llPIllll9l'S of tl1e faculty. The main purpose of this Journalistic Club was to give the students an opportunity to learn about the qualifications and the type of work required in the field of journalism. A secondary purpose was to assist, with new ideas and with help along literary lines, in publishing The Hilltop and The Cub, the school publications. In order to obtain material for studying, a textbook on journalism, News- VVriting by Borah, was introduced into the Journalistic Club. This book contains a great amount of material which is very valuable to those who wish to take up journalism, or to those who are responsible for the publication of the school papers. Among the subjects included in News-VVriting are, The Organization of the Newspaper, The Interview, and The Kinds of News That Newspapers Should Print. These are explained in the textbook in a very interesting manner, and much interest was shown in the topics discussed at the regular meetings, held on Thursday afternoon of each week. Now, at the close ofthe term, we recognize the value of the knowledge of journalism gained by means of the .Tournalistic Club. We, know, also, that the school has been given a better grade of publications, due to the ideas brought out in these weekly meetings. The first year of the Journalistic Club has indeed been a successful one! We hope it will be continued next year and that even greater success may come to it in the future! .
