She came to Manchester High to teach 7th grade math, social studies, and spelling in 1943 after several years of previous teaching experience in this vicinity. She has been teaching at Manchester High, and now, since we centralized, at Red jacket, -ever since. Miss Mertz resides in suburban Palmyra with her mother and sister, Her hobby is growing flowers and she does have a very beautiful selection of flowers in her garden at home, her house, and also in her homeroom. Blooms of all sorts respond to her green thumb. Most of us Seniors have had Miss Mertz for a teacher in junior High and we all agree that she fully deserves this honor. The class of '56 extends to Miss Mertz best wishes for a happy and prosperous future. ,,M..,...qm First row: Penny Curtis, Miss Arnold, Mrs. Lamphier, Deborah Brown, Martha Gershbach, and Shirley Mallaber. Beyond this formal scholastic training, however, each one plays his own part in guiding our habits and attitudes, and in build- ing admirable character traits. We are grateful to all these counselors and especially appreciative of the great deal of time which many of them devote to our extracurricular program. As a group, the faculty enjoys at least two major social functions each year-A Christmas party, and a june banquet. In addition, they frequently meet at a picnic table or over a cup of tea. We are pleased to add that they annually sponsor a tea in special recognition of the members of the National Honor Society, at which all seniors are guests. You 'will find many of our faculty busily engaged in community activities, in grad- uate courses, in the pursuit of hobbies, and in home-making. And we do have in our midst, a world traveler -a true exponent of our sea-going theme. 1 v':w-wxazpzgwmgz1-,,-.1..y,f.1 ,,.. .N Q ,--, .A Q M f 1 Mi: l ' 'I A L '9?W--ygy, - 1?fg,? :3E?g'!:'b,??:' or Wi. 4: if ff L' W-Milf f W-W '.1 .flf 9 !:5cG',:.Jc1Q12tgy '- R .,..,h...yrp M. ,t fur N: gf 1 l ' I 'al , g ff , 4 I J 7 1 krxmwxxm Va, ' I 1 Ly? .
