You are invited to share an intimate glimpse of the trail which .i 1 the young people of this community follow through the stages of elemen- if J tary and secondary school education. y Into this trail, converge many by- ' paths, each one directed toward some phase of physical, mental, social, or moral development. JOHNSON Elmira College, A. B. Middlebury College, A. M. ibeckca fion Because of our respect for her high scholastic standards and our admiration of her fine cultural attributes, we the members of the Class of '54, respectfully dedicate this issue of Red Jacket Trail to Miss Clara Johnson. ' This is Miss Johnson's twentieth year of teaching in our vicinity. She is best known by students in class rooms of French, Latin, and English, and at the piano as accompanist for choral groups. Her versatility extends itself into community living as she donates generously of her time and talents to church affairs and activities of the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodges, as well as other clubs and local organizations. In her travels, which include two trips to Europe, Miss Johnson has visited points of interest in several countries, has sojourned in many of the picturesque islands, and has toured the United States and Canada extensively. She records the highlights of these tours in photographic slides in color and fluently accompanies the projection of each in a most interesting fashion with detailed descriptive accounts, which enable the viewer to share her experiences. Miss Johnson is an exponent of routine, order and careful planning. She succeeds in attaining goals which she sets for herself by rigidly adhering to the means by which they may be achieved. As yet we have heard of no plans which Miss Johnson may be contemplating for travel through space , however, we do know that she expects to spend two years on a trip around the world when she has retired from her profession. In expressing our hopes for Miss Johnson's future success and happiness, it seems most fitting that we say merely, BON VUYAGEL' A, ,. White Christmas Profit Eaters Floor Dusters Is this a diet? ailzofprinfd an CC 77 gee!-urea Thirteen years ago, most of the seniors first set foot upon their trail of learning. Some spent their early years in Shortsville, and some in Manchester, but we all met on common ground to take our first regents together in the eighth grade and to begin our adventures in Senior High School. When we were lowly freshmen, some of our mem- bers strayed from the beaten path, exploring many of the by-paths of extra-curricular activities. We were represented on the basketball teams, cheerleading squads, music organizations, and even in the senior play. Our officers Were: Francis Walker, EmilyDia- zio, Phil Gilligan, and Carl Romeiser. We had one main activity to launch our money-making campaign, a round and square dance which we believed at the time, to be as glamorous as the most festive of balls In our sophomore year, we were even more well represented in sports and other extra-curricular activities. We sponsored a hayride, and a Vic dance. Our officers were: Francis Walker, Dan O'Donnell, Don Geise, and Carl Romeiser. When we were juniors, we really took the money- making proposition seriously and added considerably to our treasury as the result of a variety of activities such as: a Harvest Festival, two skating parties, the Junior Prom, Vic dances, and occasional food con- cessions. We quickened our pace along the trail in anticipation of that not too distant dream--the Senior Trip. Dick Geise, Bernadine Keyes, and Carl Romeiser were our officers. Then came September of 1953 and we had attained that long coveted prominence accorded to seniors. We made impressive footprints into the far recesses of our school district community as we began our schedule of events with a magazine sales campaign. Competition ran high between our two teams, headed by Susan Warfield and Patty Ryan, and we succeeded in topping a high goal which we had set for ourselves. We Shook the Family Tree, our senior play, proved to be a pleasurable project as well as a pro- fitable one. We are grateful tO MIS. Williams for acting as our director for this production. The highlight of our social season was our Senior Ball, White Christmas, an affair which we will not soon forget. Aided greatly by the concessions at games, we had enough money at the half-year period for our trip to New York. Without our advisors, Mrs. Lamphier, Miss Arnold, and Mr. Contant--and our officers, Dick Geise, Francis Walker, Bernadine Keyes, and Gary Hall, who have com- bined their talents and efforts in guiding our ac- tivities, our achievements would have been seriously threatened. As we blaze new trails, however distant, we are certain to enjoy recalling the many experi- ences which were ours at Red Jacket. na, 5 Ofd 0 I0 1 Lose somethmg Ed? 011817 JO Kegler s Corner 6172 ,i gig A Our httle soldler Queens alll 25 X5 OO 9 NWA 060 vw oi Say ahl 6 for esse 01' oor W 3 The Royalty ! ix, ffiifflefii - Ati f we f if My 5 55'lffIfI'? i'7.?31i5 if ' fm s 1 Am: -i b-x-, ..,,,1- Q ,-., 5 - V- ,, -ww.ffm--l,:,fL,g1 x ir wvwff .. , f Mwfgx-1 .n m-,fw .f mlm .1 -, - Q-fm ' laffff ' H 522 -ka. Warfield, S. Peters, D. Johnson, L. West, S. Stambach. p This year's Student Council, headed by Jim Boardman and Don Deyo, has accomplished a great deal and has been a credit to Red Jacket. Our corridors have been dressed up by two new 'bulletin boards and a trophy case. As- sembly programs varying in subject material from lectures, musical entertainments, magic demonstrations and puppet shows, have been sponsored by the council. One of the highlights of the year was the annual Christmas program featuring local talent. Members of the student council served as guides and ticket sellers at the basketball games, and made arrangements for transportation to out-of town contests. Probably most outstanding among the achievements of this group is the constitution which it has drawn up which will govern classes and clubs for years to come. Plans were also formulated for the publication of a student handbook to be isshed in the fall of the year. On March 10, the group played host to the Ontario County Student Council Association. Much work was put into this meeting and the efforts were well rewarded. Several discussion groups were held after which dinner was served by the F, H, A, girls with entertainment by the Red Jacket Aires. Mr. Harkenrider, Miss Arnold, and Mrs. Williams guided the activities of this organ- ization. It represents one of the most effective guide posts along our trail. BACK ROW: R. White, E. Peters, S. Excellent training for responsibilities which need to be assumed in later life, may be de rixfed from the varied assignments relative to the editing of a year book. Members of the staff extend their appreciation to Mrs. Lamphier for her guidance in the general lay- out, and literary composition of the book, and to Miss Arnold for her supervision of finances. The success of our combined efforts will be de- te rmined by the pleasure which this book brings to our readers. LEFT TO RIGHT: Louisewest, TheresaCrowther LEFT TO RIGHT: P. Ryan, . Stambach, ani! Mr. Anzalone gives individual instructions to approximately 100 students, on as many as 14 different instru- ments. Three organizations now gather for group performance under his baton. They are: Beginners' Band, Junior Band, and Senior Band. These groups lend a hand to one anotherg for, oc- casionally the seniors play with the juniors and vice-versa, thus exemplifying the spirit of cooperation in the matter of de- veloping skill and confidence. Handsome is as handsome does, might now apply to our Senior Band members, for, thanks to the Board of Education, who provided them with striking new uniforms of red and white, their appearance rating has soared to A-1. We feel, too, that the quality of their performance justifies the pride which we take in seeing them so fashionably clad. The bands have presented two concerts during the year and Valentine Anzalone prepared several numbers for adjudication at the State Festival Director at Pittsford. Mr. Anzalone's talent and enthusiasm together with the steady influx of new members who are eager and conscientious, insure continued high performance in our band in the years to come. enior Mme! L. The latter is a newly formed organization with its 17 members smartly attired in red and black uniforms. The connbined talents of our vocalists, under the direction of Mr. Strause, have served our school and our community well. The Future Farmers of America of FFA as it is commonly called, -is the National Organiza- tion of, by, and for boys studying Vocational Agriculture in public secondary schools, The Red Jacket chapter plays a very definite part in our school curriculum, All members learn through active participation how to conduct and take part in a public meeting, and how to speak in public. The members learn to buy and sell cooperatively. FFA boys learn to solve their own problems by having a supervised farming program on the home farms. In all our activities, whether it is showing cattle at the State Fair, taking part in the Speak- ing Contest given during the Horticulture Show in Rochester, or in every day school activities, we strive to develop character, sportsmanship and citizenship. Mrs. Doris Macomber, A. Johnson, A. Mink, B, Curtis, B. Walbridge, P, Poillon The Future Homemakers of America in Red Jacket has an active membership of 43. Our purpose is to work for good home and family life and de- velop creative leadership in home and community.
