They all very generously contribute a great amount of their time to see that our school meets the high edu- cational standards of the modern world today. Our school would not be able to mold the citizens of to- morrow so successfully, if it were not for these men. They are to be commended for their honest endeavors to promote and maintain such rapid progress in the educational, social, and cultural growth in the villages of Manchester and Shortsville. SUPEBINTENDENT A familiar figure in the halls of Red Jacket is Mr. john Loveless, our superintendent. His seal of ap- proval is necessary upon all matters of curriculum and extracurriculum activities which take place within the school. His sole aim is to promote the best interests of education in our community. PRINCIPAL The students of Red jacket are indeed fortunate in having such an understanding and sincere man as Mr. Estes for their principal. He is always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs his advice. He has done everything in his power to make our school a better place to develop the youth of our community into the quality of student and citizen the world needs to take over the important tasks of the future. We sincerely hope that Mr. 'Estes will find success in all that lies ahead in a life dedicated to serve others. Charles W. Spangle VICE PRINCIPAL and GUIDANCE COUNSELOR Mr. Spangle earnestly and conscientiously strives to direct the stu- dents of Red jacket into the vocations for which they are best fitted 'and qualified. Students of all age levels frequently visit his office in an attempt to decide what their future will be. The members of the Class of 1953 didn't meet until centralization, since one part at- tended Shortsville and the other Manchester. In the fall of 1949, the Red Jacket Central School district was formed and we were brought together. Entering in September, 1949 as Freshmen, we have become the first class to complete the full four years of high school at Redijacket. A Originally, there were 52 members in our class, but along the way, several were forced to leave us. These people, however, have made a fine showing for themselves in the world. They are represented in industry, the armed forces, schools, and even the semi- 0 nary. Our class now numbers 38. We, the Seniors, would like to pay tribute to the faculty at Red jacket. They have con- scientiously endeavored for four years to prepare us for our place in the democratic so- ciety we live in. Through their efforts we can go out into the world with the assurance needed to face the problems of life. As the years go by, our thoughts will still return to the halls of Red jacket and remi- nisce over the happy times spent there. We hope that some day Red jacket can be proud of her alumni. We will sincerely try to fill the promise she has encouraged in us. SEXY? ' .-.Ln AXNSSUX xx N i . xx 19 An impressive memorial. eb Hughie and his pals. We are tops for providing a well-rounded schedule of entertainment to the pleasure of everyone. Our plans include the junior Prom, Harvest Festival, and roller- skating patty. Seriously, the Juniors work hard to attain goals which we believe will make this class long to be remembered. Gratitude is given to Mr. Spangle and Mr. Anzalone for guiding us, making this a prosperous year. Good luck to the juniors in their Senior year. 24, Last September the sophomore class had 39 members enrolled. Our two capable, faithful, and hardworking advisors are Mr. Harkenrider and Mr. Markello. The sophomore class was well represented in band, chorus, sports, and other extracurricular activities. There will be keen competition too for scholastic honors, for we know of several among our group who have enviable academic records. Our representative, Eileen Dallachiesa, was chosen - queen at the Harvest Festival. L. to R.: James Boardman, Donald Deyo, Mr. Markello, Elwin Wasson, Mr. Harkenrider, Helen Governor. We are very proud to say that this year's Student Council has filled out all of its platform, except the Alma Mater. Our activities consist of the following: sponsoring paid assemblies for next yearg painting of locker rooms, minutes read over P.A. systemg put up sug- gestion boxg sponsored Christmas Assembly, supplied ushers at basketball gamesg bought jackets for Student Council for future years, helped out with school bowl- ingg sponsored buses to basketball games, had the Board of Education build trophy caseg and getting an Honor Society school flag. We have also discussed having T.V. set on, but since there is nothing educational on it, it was voted down. IIUNIIR SIICIETY These eight seniors have been elected to member- ship in the National Honor Society on the basis of outstanding achievement in the phases of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. We congratulate them on behalf of the administration, the faculty, their parents, their classmates, and their many friends in the community. May they continue to excel in the projects which they undertake in later life. STUDENT CCIUNCIL Back Row, L. to R.: Neville Poillon, Norma Vienna, Marie Gersbach, Fred Verhoeven. Q R .. e of fl Much credit is due to these conscientious students who are respon- sible for the weekly publication of Red jacket's school paper, Smoke Signals. Through their efforts, all topics of interest are written up and ready for the student body to receive each Friday afternoon. Smoke Signals enjoys somewhatof a distinction from other school papas in that it is published weekly! Most schools publish their paper either bi-monthly or monthly. Without the capable supervision of Mr. Harold Contant, faculty advisor, the staff would be unable to meet their weekly deadline. Under his direction, the paper is satisfactorily pub- lished each week. Though fairly new in the field of journalism, the staff is to be com- mended for the excellent quality of material which appears in print each week. Working in the Health 'Club gives experience in office prac- tice used in dealing with various types of people. 1952-53 was a busy year with a variety of activities for those in F.H.A. Early in the fall we attended a Cornell football game and a fall rally for F.H.A. One of the highlights was initia- tion with 16 new members. Fe Fl Ae This small group of fourteen young men from the farms will one day soon inherit the task of feeding a nation. Among their other many activities, the boys started a basketball team that was very successful. This year in Red jacket, the junior Chorus holds an unprecedented distinction For the first time in many years the chorus lacks the support of male voices. It is coqzosed ea- tirely of girls. However, this fact in no way detracts from the quality of the chorus. Miss Stratton has very successfully molded them into a Hne choral group. Miss Christine Ellis accompanies this organization. Keep up the good work girls! JUNHIB CIIURUS UCTETTE In the fall of 1952, a new choral group was introduced in Red Jacket. Eight talented girls blend their voices to produce an effect of tender harmony. The girls have appeared at several social functions throughout the year and were enjoyed by all who heard them. This year's team was especially green in the matter of previous experience, but they were well coached, they played hard, and faced stiff competition in the manner of good sportsmen. We do predict a fine season on the grid-iron next year, for most of these men are returning as sophomores, juniors, or seniors. ITY FO0TB LL Bfck Row. The team finished in third place with 12 wins against four losses. What the team lacked in height, they made up for in speed. Their grim deter- mination kept them in a game right down to the final buzzer. The student body has supported the team whole- heartedly, even when they were be- ' hind. They are to be commended for the good sportsmanship shown this year. Congratulations to the squad for their fine showing. They are a credit to Red jacket Central.
