' Creek Central School V Creek, New York Volume XXVI A Moment to Remember Forward During the seventeenth century it was written by John Donnt during the seventeenth century, All mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but is translated into a better language; . . . God employs several translators; but God ' s hand is in every translation, and his hand shall bind up all our scattered leaves for that library where every book shall lie open to one another. And so it is. During our lives we write many episodes for that chapter of the Book of which Donne wrote. Perhaps most significant are those parts of the chapter which we write during our youth. This is truly the chapter of that book which is a moment to remember for all. r . Verburg Often times a man ' s worth is measured in terms of the dollars and cents he contributes to society, other times by some famous act that he performs. However, often those who make the greatest contribution, that of oneself, go unsung. This year we, the members of The Class of 1970, are proud to present the dedication of this edition of the Centralite to a man whom we feel has contributed much to make ours a better and safer world in which to live. Through his continuing efforts many students leave R,C.C.S. each year with a better knowledge of the roads on which we travel daily. In sincere appreciation of the efforts that you have expended we, The Class of 1970, wish to dedicate this Centralite to you, Mr. Robert J, Verburg. As Director of Guidance, Mrs, Nora S, DeMas is constantly at work. However, no matter what she is doing Mrs. DeMas is always ready to help a student with a problem. In addition to helping students choose courses for the coming year she aids members of the Senior Class in selection of colleges and selection of jobs. She also serves in the preparation of the school schedule and other numerous duties. One of her chief hobbies is camping. Mr. Louis Roder, District Business Manager, also joined the staff in February 1969. Since that time he has filled this position very capably. THOMAS 55 Diane M. Durell This section of our yearbook we set aside in memory of Diane M. Durell. We have many cherished memories of Diane, and of the happi- ness and enthusiasm that she spread to cill those whe knew her. The Class of 1970 wishes to offer this as a lasting tribute to an out- standing classmate. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. Psalms 30:5b This community will long remember Diane Marie Durell. Even though our eyes are still damp from our weeping, we remember her best for the joy she brought and brings still to life. Our world has been left richer for her presence - for a life ' s task faithfully and honorably undertaken; for her good humor, gracious affection and kindly generosity. We could be overcome by our sorrow that she is gone, but this memorial to Diane causes us to rejoice again in thank- fulness that she was here and, in a certain sense, that she lives on with us always. And so whenever the cheer from the stands is Go Red Creek! and the robin sings its song of spring, or the daffodil with its freshness and beauty pushes its way out of the sleepy earth we are reminded that she is with us still and joys come with her to us. 56 i ORGANIZA TIONS 57 Working on the 1970 Centralite has created many moments to remember for all those involved with it. We have tried to capture some of these and other moments in pictures and they are filed in this yearbook so they may be easily remembered in years to come. The season of 1969 was the seventh year in a row the Red Creek Mules became Wayne County Class C champions. Faced with skilled opposition and bad weather, the Mules fought their games one by one, their offensive unit played well as a team and was very successful. Mike Caywood led the individual scorers with 11 goals, followed by Tim Burgdorf with 10 goals, and Randy Colemarj with 9. The Mules ' defensive unit played in an outstanding manner throughout the season. Most effective were Tom Snyder, Chuck Raiti, Larry Henderson, and goalie Bob Hornburg. Through the combined efforts of their strong and quick-thinking defensive players, the Mules had only 13 goals scored against them this season. f ■X .: 70 The J.V. In November, the band entertained the students of the Oswego Catholic High School and plans to travel extensively through out the year. As in past years, the band will again compete in the New York Music Association Competition where they will strive for an A rating in grade 6.
