Cereis Staff Seated, left to right: Sharon Trammell, Mrs. Eller, Sponsor; Freeda Bennett, Carol Wehrheim, Editor; Lola Heine, Co-Editor; Joyce Simpson. Standing: Carolyn Tillock, Margaret Buch, Jean Buch. We present this Cercis with the wish that it will bring you pleasure. As you leaf through its pages, may you have many happy memories of your years in Red Bud High School. The Senior Class of 1958 wishes to dedicate this Cercis to Mrs Staples who, during the years, has brought pleasure and inspiration to many through her work in the music department Superintendent ’s Message This Cereis, which is just another yearbook” to you now, will, in time to come be a treasure chest or storehouse of reminiscence. A very dear friend and college teacher of mine, the late Miss Julia Jonah, put it more poetically in her introduction to the College yearbook. Long after this, when you walk down a street Unlike the campus path that's pictured here There'll come to you, perhaps from time's retreat A memory not soon to disappear - At present yours is the world and everything in it. Build now the foundation upon which you can erect your contribution to make the world a little better by your having lived in it. Thanks for a task well fulfilled, a duty.performed, a goal reached. May you succeed as well in other worthy endeavors throughout life. Sincerely, A. N. Trammell faculty ADRIAN PHEGLEY, Principal U. S. History, Spanish I, II; Sponsor: Senior Class; F. T. A. Prophecy It is the year 1970. Ann Burgdoif and Earl Wilson are climbing into the control room of the United States' latest satellite. (—) They proceed to give instructions to their pilot, Eddie Piel; co-pilot, Peggy Laurent; and able radio technician, Billy Hanger. Their purpose is to make a survey of the occupations of their former classmates by taking an interplanetary cruise. Earl swings his precisioned telescope into place and the cruise begins! First stop, Red Bud, Illinois. Eileen Voss is now superintendent of Red Bud High, assisted by genial Tommy Deluca, principal. R. B. s coach? Why, Ronnie Durbin, of course, whose Musketeers have won every game! Also they find some new additions to Red Bud. A new home for delinquent boys founded by Robert Roth whose motto is There is no such thing as a Bad Boy! Also that lovely new housing development Carl-Dot Acres, developed by that well-known contractor, Carl Braun assisted by his lovely wife, Dorothy. Look- ing closer, they find Kathleen Windergerst, Alice Deterding, and Marlene Menard trying to figure out which button to push for Hot coffee to gossip with. They and their husbands have found living there to be easy, but complicated! From here they journey to the University of Elinois. What's this? Nina Nagel is now a chemistry professor there? Looking over Elinois’ vast prairie lands, they notice Charles Vogt getting an award for perfecting his hybrid com. Come-now Charlie, ears of com three feet long? They then look into the St. Louis situation. Well, Vernon Nookie Voges and Eugene Schmidt are the new stars of the St. Louis Hawks, proving that Good things do come in small packages. Fred Spitz is accepting an award for his wonderful comic strip Meteor- the Misguided Missile Dog whEe his pretty secretary, Freeda Bennett looks on. From here they journey on to New York City. Why, many of their former classmates reside here. For instance, Darlene Wirth is a top model for a world- wide agency. Leroy Bievenue is a famous actor who got his start playing Joseph in the Christmas pageant. In a New York night club they find those prairie beauties; Elaine, Jean and Margaret Buch, belting out a song. Also in the musical world they see Betty Braun and Carol Wehrheim pounding the baby grands at Carnegie Hall. In the Newsworld, Eldon Prothe, ace correspondent is reporting to the edi- tor of the New York Times, Lola Heine. From New York to Washington D. C. for a chat with the president. Who? Why, MEly Besher, of course. She is presenting Johnny Raffl with a cup for his saucer. A gold cup for his victory in the flying saucer race, that is. Prophecy Now to journey westward before we leave for outer space. In Las Vegas they watch Jim Muskopf, Gary Kempfer, and Milton Weber trying their newest foolproof??? system at the roulette table. On to filmland I Hollywood's newest and greatest stars of the screen are Marlene Hanebutt and Dick Wiegard (who has replaced Clark Gable) as Modern Screen Lover. A brief peek at a new Rock 'n' Roll picture reveals Lyle Matthews (who has replaced Elvis Presley) singing his new release The Satellite Rock. Also featured in the picture are Dorothy Piel and Fred Deterding, those sen- sational Calypso dancers. Now to the military fields. Sergeant Bonnie Melliere is instructing Wac private, Joann Papenberg in Operation Manhunt. On the other hand jet pilot Thomas Romeo Steibel is bidding a sad farewell to Leola Goeddel and Marie Ellner before he blasts off. Their former classmate, Richard Tex Kennedy, owner of Tex-Ken oil wells is about to drill his 99th oil well. (All successful, too!) Suzanne Guebert and Jerome Kern have taken over Arthur Murray's dance studios. Dancing, anyone? Charles Guebert now owns the first coast-to-coast milk route. His slogan? Milk—To Keep America Strong! Darlene Kueker is head Nurse at Deaconess Hospital now. Elsa Lucht has gone a little farther; a missionary in Africa! They are just in time to watch Carolyn Tillock, Miss Earth entering her spaceship to go to the moon to compete with eight other girls for the inter- planetary beauty contest title. Her hostess, Jane Mehring, is in conference with Herb Schaffner, Carolyn's capable pilot. Ann and Earl decide to take a short break for some meteor juice at the Milky Way Inn. The proprietor, Paul McCarty invites them to watch his new spectacular Show Rockin' through the Rockets. The newest members of his dancing troupe are Darlene Brown, Joyce Simpson, Sharon Trammell, and Edith Gregson. Norma Moehrs, a former student is the cute cigarette girl.
