The Spartanland Mixed Chorus and Concert Choir perform a wide variety of music, ranging from movie themes and gospel to even a musical play! Both groups practice their music long and hard, getting in shape for the three major concerts given each year. Mixed Chorus began rehearsing their music early. getting ready for the Fall Concert in November. Dur- ing this time, the group began training their voices and learned some basics of voice theory. Concert Choir has grown very much during Mrs. Barber's ten years of teaching music at Spartanland. Due to the large size of the group this year, the sound has been richer and stronger than in recent years. Commented Mrs. Barber, l learn a lot of patience and tolerance due to the large size of the class. With over 60 students packed into a small room for one period things can get pretty hectic. Both groups gave excellent performances at the concerts. At the Fall Concert songs such as I Be- lieve In You and the moving Jazz Gloria were performed by the groups. Concert Choir ended the Christmas Concert on a happy note with their per- formance of Christmas On Angel Street a story of Jed and his sister Cassie who learn a lesson about the true meaning of giving. This musical play stars were Dennis Shillingburg and Rhonda Case as Jed and Cassie. The other members of the cast included Robert Phelps-Colonel- Jeff Bennett-Mr. Worthing- Sheree Ross-Katey Jo Worthing. and the entire Con- cert Choir. With all this going for them we expect a very good year from these vocal groups. 92 Vocal Choirs
