The J.V. Spartan baseball team coached by Paul John- son topped all the other teams ending the season as the league champions with a 9-I record. Leading hitters for the J.V. s were Kenny Smith with a .458 batting average Wayne Neighbors - .409 Vince Longo- .375 and Tom Crespin with a .369. The pitching staff was lead by Bobby Hassel Paul Prinz and Andy Redfield. They had two no-hitters and three shut-out games among them. The Spartan J.V.s also won the Corning Invitational Tournament for the second straight year. Red Bluffs Most Valuable Player was first baseman Wayne Neighbors- Most Improved Player was left fielder Kenny Smith. Special honors went to Art St. John and Eric Cook who were NAL ALL-LEAGUE selections and Tom Lengtat who was given honorable mention. Coach Bonomini who was asked to comment on his team s play said We beat two league champions this year one. Coach B. went on to say that R.B. was in every game except two right to the last inning. Other high lights of the season: Art St. Johns two homers-in one game- against Anderson and Bill Brasher s homer also against Anderson. Coach Bonomini and his team also thank every one for the support in contributing to a successful season and helping to acquire the funds for the new batting cage. which shows that this team was capable of beating any- --' ----W-1-MM-'gr' , .
