The bands began a new year in Spartanland by practicing and performing new music and routines, along with the drill units, the bands performed dur- ing half-time at the many home football games. Dur- ing this time, the pep band added pep to the rallies, and at the games. Selling stuffed animals, seafood, and goblin insur- ance enabled the bands to raise money for their many activities, one of which, the 3-day concert tour at the coast: enabled the concert and stage bands to perform for the many elementary and high schools surrounding the area. With tryouts for the North State and All-State bands, band members were given the chance to dis- play their outstanding musical talent. For the second year in a row Dan Thiel earned a place on the All- State Band. Darren Henley, Glenn Shelnut, and Dan Thiel placed on the North State Band. The bands kept busy throughout the year partici- pating in many concerts, parades, and organizing the Musical Escapades. The bands performed ex- cerpts from, Nutcracker Suite during the Winter Concert, and during the half-time performances, Hotline, theme from B.A.D. Cats and themes from the many soft drink commercials were per- formed. Commented Mr. Thiel, about what he enjoyed most about the bands, I find it a challenge trying to under- stand the psychology or personality of the bands each year. Band officers for the year.
