Every ten years, R.B.C. undergoes an almost year long in- tensive self-study of programs, staff, ac- tivities, and all related areas of secon- dary education to assess strengths and weaknesses. The Visiting Committee spent three days studying the school, its activities, and interacting with the stu- dent body. A school’s accreditation sta- tus is very significant and important to colleges as they review transcripts. Both the faculty and the students involved themselves and learned a great deal. 102 Members of the visiting committee from the Middle States Association worked diligently and tirelessly to gain insight into the many different people and pro- grams of R.B.C. 103 Students In sn If III RUTGERS RED BANK CATHOLIC jERSEY BOWL NEW Red Bank Catholic, Represented by N.H.S. members, Stacy Handler, Cathy Cuasay, Jenna Abbes, and Kate McConnell prepare to demonstrate their academic abilities at the Rutgers Bowl. In early October, the National Honor Society participated in the Rutgers Bowl, a question and answer type quiz program in which students from N.J. high schools compete with other N.J. high schools. Although R.B.C. did not win the competition, our four represen- tatives, cheered on by the rest of the N.H.S., did a fine job in answering many very difficult questions. The experience proved to be exciting and interesting for all members of the N.H.S. 104 Aetion The Speech and Drama classes of R.B.C. attended a workshop at Red Bank Regional to further develop their oratory and acting skills. As Bob Rauffer deomonstrates, instruction and practice are necessary for a successful performance. On September 20, 1984, R.B.C. seniors, Stacy Handler and Mike Shorey, had the opportunity to meet with Governor Thomas Kean. Stacy and Mike were chosen to appear with the Governor on “Student Forum”, a question and answer program run by cable television network. Questions dealing with education, women and politics and other important state issues were presented. Both Stacy and Mike agreed that they felt privileged to meet the Governor and were impressed with his policies and ideas concerning issues facing New Jersey. 105 Casey Students Academically, R.B.C. appeals to various types of students with varying interests. Students here are actively involved in many facets of the school. They work hard at whatever they do. Whether studying in the library, debugging in the computer center, discovering physics in our everyday world, or creating new compounds in chemistry, the Casey students prove to be hard-working and energetic examples of this generation. 106 107 108 Sports “It isn’t whether you win or lose, It’s how you play the game” 109 Caseys On The Run Until We’re 1 The Boys’ Cross Country Team directed by Head Coach, Mr. Jack Rafter, performed well this sea- son. A team of mostly sophomores with no seniors and three juniors went undefeated. Their biggest win came when they won the Shore Conference title. When we look back upon the time that we have spent together we can see how we have grown and kept up with the fads and fashions. Some of us wore Swatches, fluorescent shirts and high tops, while others wore Izods and Docksiders. We played Trivial Pursuit, danced the “Worm” to “Shout” ev- ery chance we had and listened to Bruce, in fact we left our mark on MTV as some of us were shown in the “Born in the USA” video. During our inch of time together we gave true meaning to the words “school spirit” as we partici- pated in everything we could possibly imagine. We dressed up on Halloween, donated pints of blood for the blood drive, sold hundreds of boxes of candy and decorated the hallways. We performed our finest during sporting events, and if we were not involved in the action, we were losing our voices because of it. The hours we spent together away from school were never long enough as we went to the Hunt, gathered at dances and partied together. Though we had our small scale triumphs and fail- ures here at R.B.C. the world around us experienced its ups and downs also. It seems difficult to believe that during that same inch of time the Arms talks were resumed. Great strides were made in medicine as William Schroeder was given an artificial heart and Baby Fae the heart of a baboon. Geraldine Fer- raro became the first woman to run for vice presi- dent and President Reagan was re-elected. Yet, on the other hand, the world was shocked by the assas- sination of Indira Gandhi, millions starved to death in Ethiopia and the Russians continued fighting in Afghanistan. All of these things and more took place through- out this year. For some this inch of time may mean sorrow and oppression. For others it is just an inter- val of time in an exciting era. Yet, for the class of 1985 an inch of time means the all too brief moments that we have spent at Red Bank Catholic. Our times of laughter, good friends and togetherness. 193 I A Abbes, Jennifer 147 Locust Pt. It is the product of the work of many people who, each in their own way, help to make it what it is. The 1985 Emerald is a capital example of this kind of work. A very special thank you goes to Mrs. Grace Scerbo who helped and supported us through the good times as well as the bad. Thank you also goes to the Student Council who let us borrow their typewriter when we needed it, Mrs. Kennedy for the use of the darkroom, the faculty of RBC who understood the urgency of a deadline and helped out in whatever way they could, Mr. Walter Cichy who guided us through our uncertainty and finally to everyone else who helped make this yearbook what it is. 200 3_t' 'wojjz. “to atair x -t fcxsai n m i 7 'rnnj r€ 5 bO MUr3n bo bbOw V-bdt '-1 LJL.v. cf 1COM i 3UL 1+ SU at troutv , , . ccu-a co oJent - , aori _ tatfcj in.q i jr itor 5 La rep,eM be,v Q Q b 2)£L clLb uudkLb “tX UJJ YLHDU- . . . _ oj s mP L 0 , , --i t OL fUPtr t ,|OLO.
