We’ve learned so much along the way. Insecurity changed to confidence, immaturity yielded to growth, indifference developed into involvement. R.B.C. became more than a building, it became ours in a very personal way. With each year our experiences here will increase in value. Memories may fade but the Casey spirit will never grow dim in any of us. This journey has brought us . . . 2 mmarn one step closer .. 3 raw to God ... “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Men do not light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket. They set it on a stand where it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, your light must shine before men so that they may see goodness in your acts and give praise to your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:14-16 4 I 5 . . .to our school... “I think I can, I think I can . . . — (Joe Stango) ‘‘Remember the days in the old school yard.” — Cat Stevens (Sally Strong, Lynn Bannan) “No signs of intelligent life, Scotty, beam me up!” — (Brian Carey, Jerome Donlon, Ray Worrell, Jeff DeOlivera) 6 7 ... to our goals ... Senior privilege?! — (Todd Walsack, Bill Ciacio) . . . and it makes me wonder.” J. Page R. Plant (Pierce King) Eccentricities of genius ... — (Neil Kalakowski) 8 “Where there is an open mind, there will always be a frontier.” — Kettering ... to change ... When we first arrived at RBC, everything that we encountered seemed strange and new. Now, four years later, it is odd to think that RBC was at one time nonexistent, for us it’s more like home. To be sure, Red Bank Catholic has kept up with the times with the new computer center, administration, and dress code, but it is the student body that has felt the most change and the most growth over the past 56 years to bring us one step closer. Pre-McCormick music. 10 “The more things change, the more they remain the same. — Alphonse Karr Vg ' 11 ... to each other!” Junior year proves to be too much ... Where it’s at! You have to know a lot to realize how little you know. — (Joe Cavanaugh, Jay Varady, Dave Scotti, Brian Walsh) 12 Some actions speak louder than words! (R. DeMaria) “ no man is useless while he has a friend.” — R. L. Stevenson ■ • , 13 SENIORS Four years at Red Bank Catholic are now a part of the past for this year’s senior class. As freshmen, we started out at the bottom of the ladder. Sophomore year, we became acknowledged as a well-rounded, spirited and promising class. Junior year brought greater privileges and the ability to call ourselves “upperclassmen”. Finally, we were no longer just one step closer. Senior year arrived and we became the undisputed leaders of our school. Looking back through the years, we have grown physically, spiritually and intellectually. Through our academics and extracurricular activities, we have made RBC a stronger institution. Four years ago, we laid the foundation of our future by setting our goals high. With determination and effort, we as seniors are that much closer to fulfilling these dreams and hopes. Though it is time to move on with our new hopes for the future, we will never forget the friends we made and the good times we had here at RBC. These are the memories that will last a lifetime for the . . . After a hard day’s workout. I reach for an iced cold drink. A Winning Season For the 1984 season, Coaches Cross, Levin and Page had their work cut out for them in their hope to turn around a floundering varsity hoop program. However, they were ably assisted by a mixture of returning veterans; Dave DeLisa, Dave Boyle, Joe Arnone, and Bob Serabis, along with new-comers Mike Fairlie, Pete Lynch, Kyle Flaherty and Chip Cuozzo. Also contributing through hours of grueling practice were Don Dow, Brooks Cullen and Bill Moran. The dedication and sacrifice made by the players and coaches alike resulted in a complete reversal of the basketball fortunes. A league co- championship along with appearances in the Shore Conference Tournament and NJS1AA South Jersey Semi-final Tournament game are just some of the accomplishments achieved. No one will forget the thrilling last-second triumphs over Hudson Catholic, St. John’s, (not once, twice!), and Holy Spirit in the state tournament, not to mention the defeat of Long Branch in Casey Country avenging an earlier 20pt. loss. This win enabled the Caseys to tie for the “B” North top slot. As the department head, Sister Wendelin accompanied her advanced biology class to Riverview Hospital where students gained first hand knowledge. A special grant to the Chemistry and Physics classes helped to keep the department up with the times. Science Sister Mary Wendelin: Advanced Placement Biology, Hu- man Physiology Mr. John Valente: Physics, Physical Science Mrs. Susan Thomason: Unified Science, Environmental Sci- ence Mr. Goss 182 Religion The Religion Department signifies the true meaning of Catholic schooling. Students participate outside the classroom in class level masses and obtain a better understanding of their faith through instruction. In order to spiritually prepare students for their lives, pupils encounter various guest speakers and missionaries. This small exhibit was followed up by a county contest. Students also painted the windows of Red Bank in the spirit of Halloween under the guidance of Mrs. Kennedy. R.B.C. students greatly appreciate the quiet and studious atmosphere of the library. Sister Gertrude and the librarians are very helpful aids. Mrs. Joan Kennedy: Arts, Crafts, Photography, Humanities Mrs. Cavanaugh: Librarian Mrs. LaMotte: Librarian Sister Gertrude: Librarian Mrs. Novak: Librarian 188 iBMl Music R.B.C.’s school spirit was boosted by Mr. “Bud” McCormick at the pep rally, football games and a great Christmas show. Cafeteria staff: Barbara Tomney, Harriet Zaburinski, Patricia Kelly, Cathy Cerney, Irene Campbell and Maria Claire Husar 191 Wrapping things up. Constantly moving on can be a te- dious task. The passing of time made events blur together and it seems we were always saying, “Nothing much happened today.” Nothing much .. . except for the jokes, laughs, develop- ment of friendships, and awesome feel- ings of togetherness. We were in it to- gether and we truly did it up! This election year brought changes close to home. Our new administration prepared for Middle States and the reinstatement of a strict dress code made us truly “uniform”. We dabbled in fads: chewing tobacco, Tom Cruise shades, and Cabbage Patch Kids. We rooted for the all-Women Powder Puff football league and the first woman in space, Sally Ride. We rocked to MTV, the Police’s 1 song, “Every Breath You Take”, and the horrifying tv docu- mentary “The Day After.” Popular 4-wheel drive vehicles made the scene as the U.S. landed on the island of Grenada and terrorists assaulted Lebanon. Korean Airline Flight 007 crashed down while the U.S. soared high at the Olympics. After getting our driver’s licenses, we enjoyed cruising and hated trying to find a parking space. If school didn’t monopolize enough of our time, we had jobs and did volunteer work. Still others gave the gift of life at RBC’s successful blood drive. Six hours a day, five days a week was never enough time with our friends. Hagen Daaz and McDonald’s swarmed with green at 2:30. Caseys gathered for weekend parties, ski trips, and fraternized at the Hunt. Our play “Oklahoma” was rivaled only by the movie hit “Flashdance”. Technology took us by surprise. The computer center made BASIC a second language and we tried to get away with wearing portable cassette players in class. The world around us was changing rapidly and we kept up. Looking back, we find that it was those “nothing much” days that kept us one step closer and one step ahead! 192 and moving on, one step closer ... 193 Index Aa Abbatiello, Christine 17 176 Stone Hill Rd. Also, special photographic credit goes to Barbara Walsh, age 9, who took the color picture on the endsheet. 200 one one one one step step step step closer closer closer closer
